Unboxing: BDJ Box April 2015

This is a pretty late post of the April BDJ Box*, I don’t know if you’ve noticed! I think that it’s because I thought that it was a little bit of a “lackluster” box. Although it’s a pretty packed month, I feel like for the most part, people subscribe to these boxes with an expectation of something special. So, regardless of the total value that the box comes out to—in this case, Php 1608 as per Tellie’s calculations, or over 3 times the initial Php 580cost—people are bound to get disappointed if they don’t get “special” items. Even if it’s full of useful products.

Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP May 2015: Sexy Eye Palette + Why I Won’t Be Signing Up Again

Hello all! I come bearing a really beautiful thing today. This is the thing that came in the May box (sooo articulate…) for the Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP subscription. May was also conveniently the month that sign-ups for current subscribers opened back up for the next round. You can sign up here, if this interests you, but I’ve decided not to re-sub. More on that later, but believe me, this month’s offering nearly made me sign up again. For this month, I received an 18-pan palette called Sexy Eye Palette. If it looks familiar, I have a similar palette called Melange de Colour Fashion Eye Palette, which retailed for $95, like the LMdB Kaleidoscopes. They’re pretty different, but someone on MakeupTalk.com found a Neiman Marcus GWP that looks a whole lot like the Sexy Eye Palette, but it was named Galore.

Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP: April 2015

The April offerings of Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP left a lot to be desired. At least, for me. Seeing as I stalk the Makeuptalk thread for this subscription service, I already knew that I wouldn’t really like the box that was coming my way. For one thing, it had two nail lacquers and a—excuse my French—pretty gross baby blue eyeshadow. Based on what I have read, a lot of subscribers received Cocoa Cabana, something I had already received in February 2014. A no-repeat of products was guaranteed, which is part of why I signed up for it for a second round. I contacted PR/customer service and have yet to receive a reply, which is pretty unlike my previous experiences with LMdB. I don’t mind repeat products if I love them; I just don’t particularly care for nail varnish, much less this color I’m ambivalent about that I also already have.

Summer Skin

We’ve been hitting unreal high temps here in Manila, and most days, I just like forgoing makeup. However, I recently wore my Ellis Faas Skin Veil* after going off of it for a while, and I remembered just how beautiful it makes my skin look like, so I thought I’d do a post on my favorite base combinations have been as of late.

Recreating a Rijks Muse Palette

I posted about a hypothetical makeup line about a year ago called Rijks Muse, which was a winning entry for a contest that the Rijksmuseum held that asked for some potential products and merch using images from their permanent collection. As of my posting last year, there were talks of possibly developing an actual line, but fast forward to today and there is no Rijks Muse in sight! So I took it into my own hands and “made” my own palette.

Everyday Face Brushes

Not that I wear makeup everyday, but you know what I mean. I’ve personally amassed a ridiculous amount of brushes, but having dialed back on the makeup obsession, there are just a few brushes that I regularly use now. Here are the face brushes that I’ve been using as of late. I am thinking about making a “Favorite Brushes” or “Most Useful Brushes” post sometime in the near future. Sigma F86 Tapered Kabuki Brush** This is the newest addition to my arsenal and I freaking love it for liquid bases that need more than finger action to blend out properly. The tapered end makes it easy for you to reach weird nooks on your face, like the space around your nose and all around under your eyes, and other places that need precision. Real Techniques Expert Face Brush This was my weapon of choice for liquid bases, but now I find I use it a lot for cream products like blush and bronzers. It still works great for your regular face base, but it also …

Stuff I Bought in 2015: Part I

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cbrNqAM2W8 So, I eventually broke and purchased a few items—two of them, rather thoughtlessly, I think—and I guess these are my makeup items for January-March 2015. Not to confuse you, but I made a deal with myself to buy 1 makeup item per month in 2015. In an effort to curb my makeup shopping. Obviously, it’s worked but I’m kicking myself in the face, haha. I talk a bit about the items in the video above (it’s short!) but I’ll post some swatches below: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu & MAC Viva Glam Rihanna II Why these are my thoughtless purchases: I love Train Bleu, but I think I should have held off and gotten the Pure Matte Lipstick in Volga! It seems more of the shade I’m looking for. I’ll use this anyway, because it’s really pretty, too. And for my “WTF?” I’ve got MAC Viva Glam Rihanna II. It’s a really frosty brown. I’m wearing it in the video. In a weird way, I do like it, but I still …
