Beauty Dare: 20 Days of Lipstick

Happy Monday, everyone! Just checking in to say that I will be on a self-imposed beauty dare for the month of June, inspired by the Lipstick Challenge by Caroline over at A Cup of Jo, where someone wore a different lipstick everyday, and by my own experience with the hot pink lips in this Maybelline review. I shall skip the weekends and provide 5-day recaps on Sunday. 🙂 I think this is helpful if you are like me, a person who tends to stick to the same old lipstick colors (muted! MLBB!) even when I have a shit ton of others. I feel like sometimes we tend to say that a lipstick shade “doesn’t suit us” but really, we’re just not used to seeing it on our face. So for 20 days out of the 30 in June, I’ll be wearing non-nude lips, and then I’ve got the weekends off to go to town on my MLBB shades, lol. Feel free to go on this challenge with me! The only rule is NO REPEATING OF …

New Releases From Maybelline*

Earlier this week, I got a cute surprise from Maybelline: some of their new releases, which includes four lipsticks and three brow mascaras, all tucked into this hot pink lip purse! I’ve fallen behind the new Maybelline releases since I’ve steered my beauty consumption towards a more cruelty-free route quite a while ago. The four lipsticks are variations of pink, as they are part of the Maybelline Pink Alert Lipsticks, which is a new addition to their Color Sensational range. I think it’s an attempt to kind of “up the amp” in pink lipsticks, doing away with the prissy, frilly pinks with four kind of really in-your-face “rebellious” pinks, which they call “runway-ready pink shades.” There are four pinks: POW 1, POW 2, POW 3, and POW 4. POW 1 and POW 3 and blue-based, cool pinks. POW 2 and POW 4 are warmer pinks, with POW 4 being the most coral-y of them all. All are pretty bright. If you know me, I can’t handle bright lipsticks on my visage (lol), but you know …

Makeup Inventory: Le Métier de Beauté True Colour Eye Shadows & Kaleidoscopes

I have a love-hate relationship with Le Métier de Beauté, that’s actually more of a love relationship with a very serious side-eye at the price point. I’m not going to sugarcoat~ it or anything—this brand is pretty dang expensive. And yet I am lured in, all the time. It’s been a few months since I bought makeup from LMdB (not counting the Beauty Vault VIP items), though. As I mentioned in my last Beauty Vault VIP post, I’d be happy to swatch my Le Métier de Beauté eyeshadows for um, you know, science. Sunny said she’d like to see them, so here they are. In hindsight, I don’t have all that much, but hopefully this helps you out! The tricky thing with LMdB is that their production is so freaking limited, I almost always just give up on something Limited Edition and hope for the best. The singles are permanent, though, but I don’t have a lot of them. 🙂 I’ll start with the LE palette that I did hound: The Mélange de Colour Fashion …

Lazy Girl Makeup: One-Shadow Smokey Eye

Launching (very late) today is a series I’m hoping to keep doing for a long time: Lazy Girl Makeup! It’s basically a post every two weeks in which I share with you my lazy ways. Here, for example, is a one-shadow smokey eye look. I did a similar look last year, which you can find here. The main difference with this look and the old one is that I used a kohl/creamy pencil first. Draw a messy, rich line near your lash line. Don’t worry if it’s not neat! Smudge dat liner. I used the e.l.f. Eyeshadow “C” Brush, which if I’m not mistaken, is really made for a smokey eye. Pat on your chosen shadow (here, Le Métier de Beauté’s Midnight Sky, which is a deep sapphire-navy) all over the lid, going over the crease a tiny, tiny bit. Again. Don’t worry if it’s not neat. Use a clean blending brush (here, the MAC 217) to blend all of the edges and haze the shadow out. Apply the same liner on the lower lash …

Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP May 2014

Just a quick post on the May 2014 Box from the Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP. If you’ve been here long enough, this may be a familiar installment for you, since subscribers are on their 10th month of the service. The Beauty Vault VIP offering was a year-long subscription service by New York-based luxury cosmetics brand, Le Métier de Beauté. You signed up and paid up front, so it was a bit steep. The amount paid including shipping and handling was evened out by the 3rd or 4th month, though. For the May box, subscribers received two True Colour Eye Shadows, which are some of my favorite eyeshadow formulas. It seems like everyone received the same shades: Peachy Keen and Goldstone. Peachy Keen is very close to my skin tone, just a hair peachier and warmer. Goldstone is a very warm, medium gold. These swatches are made with one swipe, over bare skin. The eyeshadows come in a small round compact in a rubbery black plastic material, each with its own mirror (the …

Music Festival Carry-Ons: For Lolas

Lola means “grandmother”in Filipino, which is pretty much an accurate descriptor of my whole entire being true self. This lola went to a music festival called Wanderland a few days ago and this is what this lola brought along. The “beauty” bits, at least. Lord knows I brought PRICKLY HEAT POWDER and WET WIPES, because like I said, my true self is a lola. Pressed powder & oil blotting sheets to battle the oilies. SPF’d lip balm for sun protection & lip moisture. A cute lip color—my current favorite!—for cuteness. Cheek tint for extra cuteness. Sunscreen* for uselessness because we didn’t even go until the sun was about to set. An expensive misting of water, because you never know when you’re going to need that, what with the heat of the world these days and all. The funny thing is that I didn’t even use any of this stuff I brought with me. Because I was too busy being a fake lola and having fun, well way into the night! I want to know: What …

Nosy Beauty Vol. 29: Sasha

Hey, Internet. I’ve been having a bit of an issue getting a hold of people to feature here on Nosy Beauty, so for the meantime, I’m going to post a new entry (hopefully) every other Friday now, as opposed to every single Saturday, which I used to do before its inevitable, temporary demise. Anyway, this week, I’ve got Sasha of Go for Garbo, one of my favorite new beauty blogs, and also reader/writer of my favorite book blog: Other Sashas. Enjoy! • Hello, Carina’s corner of the Internet! My name is Sasha Martinez, and I write for a living. I’m also a gangly, awkward nerdface with a belated but nonetheless ardent fascination with makeup, helped along by ch-ch-ch-changes brought on by a belated and horrifically tedious skincare regimen. I guess this fascination came to a head when I found myself keeping a dedicated pocket notebook just for makeup thoughts—partly tracking my use of products, partly a skincare diary, mostly arguments with myself re buying two eye palettes in one go, yadda. And then I was …
