FOTD: Basic Face

My friend Chard’s tweet was about how it was sad that “basic” is now used to mean something negative, and I agree! I, for one, tend to go for mostly basics when it comes to clothes, and though I love colors in my make-up, I tend to reach for my basics the most. Anyway, here’s a basic face for ya. I had to do office stuff + bank stuff, so I obviously wasn’t going to wear vampy~ lips or a smoky eye. Haha. I mean, I could have, but I didn’t. So there.

Toss or Keep No. 1: Foundations and Bases

Taking a leaf out of Rae’s sensible tree, I decided to do a “Toss or Keep” as well, rounding up all of my tinted bases to see which ones I could probably do without. Also, to remind myself that I don’t need another foundation, for crying out loud! I have tinted moisturizers and foundations, BB Creams, etc. but I didn’t include my illuminating tinted primers, such as the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfecter and the Le Métier de Beauté Peau Vierge Anti-Aging Tinted Complexe, since I would never wear those alone. Even with dry skin, I find them to be too glowy if not paired with a base with more coverage—because of this infernal heat! My current base count is: 11. Which, all things considered… I don’t think is that bad. Of course, if you compare this number to the typical beauty v/blogger, it really isn’t too crazy, but I don’t know any sane person who would compare their stash to that of beauty v/bloggers. So… I still need to work on dis. It’s still a …

FOTD: ColourPop Not a Box of Chocolates

I wanted to post a look using ColourPop’s Not a Box of Chocolates, which was a holiday release (sorry). I mainly wanted to show how they look and talk about how they apply. 🙂 So this is going to be a sort of short review, too. I used a matte shade, Doe-a-Deer, which they ended up making permanent and the other colors I used aren’t that hard to dupe anyway. Here’s the look: ColourPop’s Halo, Partridge, and Doe-a-Deer are the only eyeshadows I used for this look. I used the NARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eye Base under everything, and a primer/base really helps the colors to pop more. ColourPop actually suggests you apply these shadows with your finger, to really pack on the pigment. I find that this absolutely makes a difference in how the colors apply. Basically, I patted on Halo on the inner 2/3 of the lid. It’s a pale, non-metallic gold with a little bit of sparkle. It’s a “Satin Luxe” finish, which means that it has a bit of shine, but it’s …

5 Product Face No. 8

Nature Republic By Flower Auto Eyebrow in 02 // NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger // 3CE Cream Eyeshadow in Glamorous // ColourPop Lippie Stix in Lumière Yay! Another 5 Product Face. I had to get ready really quickly for a short get-together with my two best friends before saying farewell to Barby, who would be leaving for Chicago the day after. Here’s what I came up with:

Favorite Finds of 2014

Hey everyone! Here’s a quick post on some of my favorite finds this year. I had a really, really hard time narrowing down my picks because, frankly, 2014 was a great year of discovery for me, as far as beauty products and cosmetics are concerned. I’ve mixed in fragrance and skin care picks, as well as other products I really wanted to mention that I really loved as well. Let’s start with makeup!

Takashi Murakami's 727

Made-Up History: Takashi Murakami’s 727, 1996

A quick look based on Takashi Murakami’s 727, which features DOB as the main character of the piece. I’ve been intending to do this look for a while, but just never got around to it. Takashi Murakami is a Japanese artist who’s known for blurring the lines between “high” and “low” art, that is, fine and commercial art. He has exhibited in international venues (I saw this piece in a retrospective/special exhibit by the Brooklyn Museum many, many years ago) and is involved with many commercial projects such as special edition Louis Vuittons.
