Quick post of an FOTD, in which I had to force myself to wear a non-neutral lip and not regret it. (It worked out okay.) I was also watching a video on highlighters the night before and it made me really want to break out my BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector again, so I did.
I typically spend most of the working hours at home, since I work freelance. This past week has been crazy hectic because my family’s gallery is participating in this year’s Art Fair Philippines. When I got home one day from setting up, I think, this huge package was greeting me! I figured it was a BDJ Box because they’re usually quite generous with their mailings. 🙂 The BDJ Box for January-February 2015* is called “Kawaii Must-Haves.” If you didn’t already know, kawaii is the Japanese word for “cute.” The contents of this box are must-haves for you to be kawaii, apparently. I was pretty excited, not only because I want to look cute as frak, but also because I love Japanese beauty products. The box was hefty, and it was also filled with papers and stickers. Aside from the usual information card for the products, there was also a mini magazine that’s filled with tips, photos, and coupons! Yay, a new Made-Up History—finally!—and one for Wes Anderson Week. This painting played a prominent role in his recent feature, The Grand Budapest Hotel. Called “Boy with Apple,” this painting was credited in the film as being created by Johannes van Hotyl the Younger, but it’s actually a fictional painting made specifically for the film by present-day artist, Michael Taylor. (Read more here.) Not to give too much away, this painting (modeled by Ed Munro) kind of pushes the story along its trajectory after everything is set into motion. Anyway, this was the first thing I thought of to do when I thought of doing Wes Anderson Week!
Hello everyone! I just wanted to share a Face of the Day feat. the first look I ever attempted with MAKE Colour's Celeste e Verde Palette* (reviewed) because it's such a fun look that totally goes against the fall leanings of the makeup people have been wearing this season. Although I sometimes base my makeup on the Western hemisphere's concept of seasons, I'm not going to let the onset of autumn stop me from wearing pastel blue and yellow eyeshadow! I used Palermo, a pretty canary yellow all over the lid, fading out into the warmer brown, Brick in the outer corner, with Earth (a neutral brown) buffed out into the crease. I used my finger and the NARS Eye Brush no. 3 for the yellow lid shade, and a MAC 217 for the crease and outer corner shades.
I may have a problem! Look at all this crap. (Just kidding, cuddles face bases.) See, I never thought I would be the kind of “makeup enthusiast” who had a thing for bases. I was always always distracted by color cosmetics, so this is kind of a weird personal revelation. This is all a restrained effort at acquiring bases, mind you. I regularly clear out my stash, and I’ve also salivated over a number of other bases I’ve chosen to pretend to not exist. All to be mentioned at the end of this post. Ahem. So what is the case for bases? There isn’t really any case for it, other than the fact that I am a fickle person and I like having options. For the record, I like having “natural looking” skin. By this, I mean, I don’t mind if a pimple peeks through or if my eye bags aren’t 100% erased by foundation and concealer (… that’s a whole other story), so most of my foundations are medium coverage, at most. Last week, I got invited to Pixy’s Launch here in Manila. I rarely get to go to events because of prior commitments and work deadlines, but I’m glad I got to swing by this one. If you recall, BDJ released a Pixy-centric box back in April. I enjoyed a lot of the products I got in that box, so I’m glad that they’ve finally reached our shores. Pixy is an Asian cosmetics line—formulated in Japan and manufactured in Indonesia, geared towards Asian skin tones and skin types, bringing out “truly Asian beauty” while striving to be on trend as well. My cousin got married on the 11th! Here is the face I put on for that day—12 hours after application! I was going to use a palette but ended up going back to a few singles I haven’t used much and an old favorite that I’ve stashed away in one of my drawers. My face base is my usual one these days: a primer (Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer), the NARS Sheer Glow (Punjab), the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (Ginger), set with a combination of Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders (Mood Light and Luminous Light) and the Le Métier de Beauté Eye Brightening and Setting Powder (Refresh) for my under-eye concealing. I should note that this is the face of someone who did not touch her base up once for an entire 12 hours. I used the Urban Decay Primer Potion instead of a MAC Paint Pot, and holy shit I forgot how much I loved this stuff. Wowwww. It really is the best eye primer, in my opinion.
