Yay, a new Made-Up History—finally!—and one for Wes Anderson Week. This painting played a prominent role in his recent feature, The Grand Budapest Hotel. Called “Boy with Apple,” this painting was credited in the film as being created by Johannes van Hotyl the Younger, but it’s actually a fictional painting made specifically for the film by present-day artist, Michael Taylor. (Read more here.)
Not to give too much away, this painting (modeled by Ed Munro) kind of pushes the story along its trajectory after everything is set into motion. Anyway, this was the first thing I thought of to do when I thought of doing Wes Anderson Week!
For the eyes, I mostly used the Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes (2012). On the crease, I blended on a combination of Café Au Lait and Coffee Ground, then added Rouge Bunny Rouge Bejewelled Skylark for a punch of red. On the lid, there’s just a shitload of colors like LM’s Sunlit on the inner 1/3, and LM’s Deep Night on the outer 1/3. On the center, I added Le Métier de Beauté’s Pistachio (from the Melange Palette) for a punch of apple green! I added RBR Bejwelled Skylark on the outer 1/3 of the lower lash line.
On the upper lash line, I smudged on Le Métier de Beauté Dualistic Eye Pencil in Tamarack. Then I applied the Le Métier de Beauté Anamorphic Lash Mascara in Midnight.
For the lips, I used a nude brown, NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Tonkin. I warmed up my face with Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light.
Rest of makeup: Suncut UV Essence SPF 50, Pixy UV Whitening Two Way Cake Perfect Matte in Yellow Ochre*, K-Palette 24H Real Lasting 2-Way Eyebrow Liner in G101*, MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
I liked it, but I thought it was a little lacking so I switched out my lip color to a warm, rusty red–Ellis Faas Hot Lips in L401*
I think it made it much more like the painting. 🙂
Hope you enjoyed this post and Wes Anderson Week (so far)! Let me know what you think?

That Ellis Faas color is beautiful!
I’m glad you agree! ❤
I think The Grand Budapest Hotel is my favorite Wes Anderson movie. I agree that it’s less quintessentially Anderson than his others, though just as impeccably designed–I walked out of the theater wanting to base a makeup look on the pastries from Mendl’s. But this look is an even better idea. I love your pairing of brick red and apple green!
Thank you! x I was surprised at how much I loved that movie.
That movie is sooo fun, from start to finish I love everything 🙂
AND I LOVE THIS SERIES, I love you po for resurrecting it! The Elis Faas lipcolor definitely made the look. It’s the right shade of red and I love the complexity of it. I love how it looks under the shadows.
HAHAHA YAY! I love Made-Up History. 🙂 But ganda nung Ellis Faas no? I can’t wait to use it! I left it at home T^T
As always, you are killing it with your eyeshadow game! And Hot Lips.
Thank you so much x
