Quickie: Eye of Horus Natural Mascara*

A few months ago, I was sent the Eye of Horus Natural Mascara by Glamour Box, via Paoie. It was my first chance to try the brand and I was pretty excited as I had read many good things about it online.

Product Description: “If you’re after perfect natural mascara that won’t run, smudge or clump, Eye of Horus natural mascara is exactly what you are looking for. Formulated in the style of the ancient Egyptians, Eye of Horus mascara uses natural, non-irritating ingredients. Ideal for sensitive eyes and Eye of Horus Mascara strengthens and lengthens for ultimate Goddess lashes.

Being formulated with nourishing waxes, removal is easy with a cloth warmed with water as the heat melts the waxes, cleaning lashes, making it gentle on the eyes.”

What sets Eye of Horus apart from the usual makeup brands is its philosophy. Their products are based on traditional Egyptian beauty secrets, and they are all-natural, and cruelty-free. In fact, they advertise that their mascara can be removed using only warm water, because it’s basically made of oil and wax.

Eye of Horus Natural Mascara - Bristles

I like applying the Eye of Horus Natural Mascara on my uncurled eyelashes for that beautiful natural effect. Its brush is an hourglass shape with plastic and what I would describe as thorny bristles.

I used this mascara all throughout my Japan trip, and my travel buddy and one of my best friends, Barby, noticed my lashes and complimented them. I don’t like applying them on my curled lashes, however. The effect is definitely different and not something I like.

This next picture shows the mascara at its best (eye: my left) and not-so-great (eye: my right). It’s really, really great when it wants to get the job done.

Since this has a pretty wet formula, I noticed that after a few coats, the lashes kind of stick together (again, my right eye). They don’t clump, but it feels like they are playing a game of The Boat is Sinking, and they’ve been asked to group themselves into 3’s. When I blinked before the mascara dried, the top lashes would kind of stick to the bottom lashes!

I should note that the formula is not waterproof. I noticed on my trip that, by the end of the day, some of the mascara will have smudged and migrated to my lower lids/eye bags. To be fair, we would be out and about the entire day. Still, the weather was pretty cool, and it still slid off onto my eye bag area.

Eye of Horus Mascara - Full Face

I don’t think they substantially volumize, but they lengthen and enhance my natural lashes. I suppose they go all fluttery, as per Barby’s observation.

All in all, I’m pretty happy with this mascara. I’ve pretty much given up trying to make my lashes into something they are not (luscious and long), so this is the perfect everyday mascara for me. It at least adds noticeable definition, and in person, you can see a more pronounced flutter.

You can purchase the Eye of Horus Natural Mascara from the Glamour Box website, here.

* I received this from the Glamour Box Team. (Thank you, Paoie!) I wasn’t required to write or compensated for this review. All opinions are 100% my own.

  1. Yeahh just work with what you have eventually right, instead of against it lol. Does the fiber type mascara work for you? I love the look of the brush of that mascara! Sturdy plastic wands seperate lashes so well.

    • It depends! If the formula is too heavy, it really weighs my lashes down. I love the Majolica Majorca ones, but they are a pain to remove. Have you tried them?

  2. It’s lovely – you can see a big difference. 🙂 I have been using cheapo Wet N Wild Mega Length, which, for $3, is arguably worth quite a bit more than the price. Can’t wait to try something else though.

    • Thank you Marisa. 🙂 I’ll check that out next time, thank you for mentioning it! I am always wanting drugstore mascaras, but a lot of them are not CF.
