FOTD: ColourPop Not a Box of Chocolates

I wanted to post a look using ColourPop’s Not a Box of Chocolates, which was a holiday release (sorry). I mainly wanted to show how they look and talk about how they apply. 🙂 So this is going to be a sort of short review, too. I used a matte shade, Doe-a-Deer, which they ended up making permanent and the other colors I used aren’t that hard to dupe anyway.

Here’s the look:
ColourPop FOTD - Face 1

ColourPop’s Halo, Partridge, and Doe-a-Deer are the only eyeshadows I used for this look. I used the NARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eye Base under everything, and a primer/base really helps the colors to pop more. ColourPop actually suggests you apply these shadows with your finger, to really pack on the pigment. I find that this absolutely makes a difference in how the colors apply.

Basically, I patted on Halo on the inner 2/3 of the lid. It’s a pale, non-metallic gold with a little bit of sparkle. It’s a “Satin Luxe” finish, which means that it has a bit of shine, but it’s nothing too “LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME,” which is what the ColourPop Metallics are like.

I ran Partridge through the crease and outer corner with a fluffy brush, which is probably why the nuance of the shade isn’t really seen here. Sorry, Partridge. If packed on heavily, it belongs to the MAC Club Club, along with the other blue-green-red duochromes.

Doe-a-Deer is a beautiful deep purple-brown matte, and I added it on the outer corner. This is definitely my favorite shade.

Then I just rimmed my lower lash line with a nude kohl liner, added a slick of black liquid liner, curled my lashes, and added some mascara.

And das it. Nothing very special with everything else! On the whole, I do like the ColourPop Super Shock Shadows, and if I didn’t already have a gajillion eyeshadows, I would probably go out and buy more. I find the screw-on caps a little annoying if you’re on the go, but they work well enough if you’re sitting comfortably while doing your makeup. I did drop Doe-a-Deer and it kind of cracked/shifted a little, which is weird because the textures of these are kind of wet and mousse-y. So I’m a little ??? about it, but I like them a lot. Worth the 5 bucks, though to my understanding, these don’t have a whole lot of product in them.

If you have these, REMEMBER TO CLOSE THEM REALLY TIGHTLY. They are apparently really prone to drying, which explains the screw-on lid in the first place.

Eye Love 3CE!

I thought I’d go crazy over the eyeshadows at Stylenanda’s 3CE, but I ended up just getting two matte eyeshadows and one cream eyeshadow. I was looking at a shu uemura-style horizontal palette, but resisted the very, very strong urge to pick up yet another neutral palette.

3CE Eyeshadow Swatches - Salmon Pink, Tom Boy, Glamorous

The two matte eyeshadow shades I picked up were Salmon Pink, a matte… salmon pink, and Tom Boy, a very dirty olive. Both are so gorgeous, despite looking quite boring. I think they would be perfect for understated editorial looks–much like the campaign materials of 3CE feat. Park Sora. I resisted the cream shadow selection, too, and only got a warm medium bronzey brown called Glamorous. It reminds me a lot of my favorite eyeshadow, shu uemura’s ME medium brown 885, only it’s a lot less red. Read More

Sample Stash Sunday: A Collection of Empties

I’ve made a few empties posts here and there, but never consistently because I keep itching to throw everything away. However, I’ve recently made a conscious effort to use up my samples—you know, a sample a day keeps the impending destiny of becoming a hoarder away—and sometimes, empties posts are actually useful!

The empties I have today are just samples. Samples are exciting, but they are also susceptible to forgetfulness and a future as waste. So, these are what I’ve used up since about late October. Read More

FOTD: Everyday Mauve

At times, I feel like I’ve been “uninspired” when it comes to makeup because I rarely ever do any fun looks anymore, with the exception of certain lip colors… but I realized that it doesn’t really matter because I will use my makeup the way I want to use it. If that means yielding boring FOTDs, then so be it!

For the record, I really like this FOTD, so there’s that. Read More

A Blogging Break (Kinda, Not Really)

Hey all!

As some of you may have noticed, I haven’t been replying to a lot of the comments in a timely manner. I’ve also fallen off checking my fave blogs lately. Some time late last year (or I should say, just this December), I started a bit of my goal setting for 2015 and like a lot of people, I had grand plans to make my year better than the last. Read More
