Unboxing: BDJ Box July 2014* & Some Thoughts on “Value”

On the last day of July, BDJ sent me the month’s box, which may explain why this is late. BDJ is one of the top subscription boxes in the Philippines, if you’re not familiar, and it only costs Php 580 (or a little over $13) each month. Here’s what’s inside the BDJ July 2014 Box*: To be honest, I was contemplating on not posting about this box because I didn’t really find it too exciting. Thought I’ve been sent these boxes for a few months (maybe even a year now), I was never required to write these posts. I usually find BDJ boxes to be quite OK, if not great… Good enough to post about anyway. BDJ has built a reputation for itself as a kind of reliable subscription box with thoughtful picks for boxes. This box was so dull to me that I didn’t even want to post about them, but going through each item, I had a thought (more on that later) and ended up writing up a post anyway. Here are the …

July Favorites & August Beauty Goals

Hey everyone, it’s time for my Beauty Favorites this July! I made a point to pay attention and actually take note of the things I’ve been loving this month (at least for half of it), and these are the items that came to mind. — NARS Sheer Glow (Punjab): I bought a primer with a high SPF so I could keep using this (I hadn’t been since it is SPF-less) and I reminded of why I loved it so much. — MAC Paint Pot (Groundwork): This is probably the eye base/primer that I reached for the most in July, switching out Painterly, since it looked really pale and ashy against my summer tan~ — shu uemura Eyeshadow (ME medium brown 885): One of my top 5 eyeshadow singles, this is a great all over the lid color if you truly can’t be bothered. — Urban Decay Primer Potion: A rediscovery as I’ve been using paint pots and using up my NARS eye primer (yech). This stuff is amaaaazing, my absolute favorite eye primer. — Le …

Le Métier de Beauté Kaleidoscope Lip Kit in Gemini’s Kiss & a Beauty Vault VIP Recap

For the last and final month of the Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP Subscription, subscribers got a Kaleidoscope Lip Kit in Gemini’s Kiss, which features 8 lip colors (4 lipsticks & 4 crèmes or glosses) in split pans. I don’t have the individual names but I’ll email LMdB to ask then append this post if they are individually named! I wasn’t supposed to post this until much later. I just got this yesterday and haven’t been able to play with it much yet, but I wanted to get this post up because LMdB is closing their subs soon… and I wanted to show you what they’ve sent, so far, in case any of you are interested in subscribing to them. Here’s the last shipment for the first round, which went on from August 2013 to July 2014. The Lip Product Addict Tag

I am, by no means, a lip product addict… but I do like doing fun tags every once in a while. I have an okay relationship with lip products. I mean, they’re alright to hang out with and whip out and stuff, but I have never stared lovingly at a lip product like the way I do with palettes. It’s just not the same. ETA: OK, this video is cut off, so I’m reuploading it. Sorry for this dumb mistake and thanks to Zoë for mentioning something! ETA 2: YAY reuploaded! Ahem. The Lip Product Addict Tag was started by Amelia Liana and Estée on YouTube. Here are their questions, in case you want to give this a go, too: 1. Favourite balm/treatment? 2. Best eye-catching red? 3. Best luxury & best drugstore? 4. Best MAC lipstick? 5. The most disappointing? 6. Liner – yes or no? 7. Best gloss? 8. Something extra! And here is their original video. Let me know if you’ve done this tag (and paste your link in the comments!), or …

Recent Acquisitions / Currently Testing

I know I just did a post on my recent acquisitions, but these are some of the other things I just received last week that I’ve been testing out. Unless I meet something I truly love and enjoy using, I don’t think I’ll bother with a full review, so let me know if there’s anything here in particular that you’d like me to talk more about. Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation in Just Sheer After so many months of going back and forth on whether or not I should purchase this, I had a moment of weakness and just went for it. I didn’t anticipate that the casing of this thing would be this heavy. The packaging (which is refillable) is way luxe—even more than Guerlain, which has the most luxurious packaging I’ve met in my life (i.e. weight, feel, look, etc.), so that’s saying something. I’ve been looking to get into some brands that are “cleaner,” and this is one of my explorations so far. I really like it, but let’s see how well this …

The Nose Knows

Until quite recently, I hadn’t been particular about perfumes and colognes since I was in high school. I started wearing scents regularly when I was in the fourth or fifth grade, with my choices being increasingly masculine until I began wearing more feminine and fresh scents in high school. I suppose, it felt like sort of a ritual, a part of my everyday routine. It fell by the wayside when I had a jumbled up schedule in college. All of a sudden, I was always just scrambling to try and get to school on time. LOL I actually finished off a bottle of Davidoff Cool Water in the fifth grade. Does anybody remember this scent? I wore this WAY before Sawyer did, though. Recently, I’ve been trying to get back into wearing scents. For some reason—I’m not really sure what, but I’ve been gravitating towards certain smells. Here is a rundown of my favorites lately: Diptyque Vetyverio — I fell in love with this scent while browsing Diptyque. I was originally looking for the rose …

5 Things Friday: Minimal Lip Wardrobe

The average person (aka non-crazy, functional) only needs five basic lipsticks. At least, in my opinion. Here are my picks for the five lipsticks you need in your minimal lipstick wardrobe. An everyday neutral Also known as “office appropriate” or “easy to wear.” This lipstick should be easy to throw on and makes you feel like you can forget about it and be able to go about your day without thinking twice about it because you can rely on it to look good no matter what. My personal picks for “everyday neutral” are MAC’s Mehr and Jubilee, THREE’s Love Like Heaven, Happy Skin’s Crushing on You and The Morning After, and KATE Rouge HG Lipstick in PK-17. A red that suits you There are many different kinds of red, it’s kind of insane. And a little confusing. Sometimes you feel like you can’t wear red, and though that’s true for a lot of people, for most of us, it’s more likely that we just haven’t found the right red for us. I like orange-y reds …
