The Lipstick Tag

I got tagged to do The Lipstick Tag by Elaine a few weeks ago! I don’t do tags or fill up awards usually (I keep forgetting), but they’re fun from time to time, I think. 🙂 1. How many lipsticks do you own? Not counting glosses, multi-purpose products, lip pencils, lip crayons, etc… somewhere around the 60++ mark. 2. What was the first lipstick you owned? I think the first one I picked out for myself was Maybelline’s Chestnut. The first high-end lipstick I ever owned was a Chanel Rouge Coco in Perlé. 3. What is your favorite lipstick brand? My favorite is Chanel, but I stopped buying from them when I went cruelty-free. Now, it’s Le Métier de Beauté and NARS. 4. What is your most worn lipstick? Probably a NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Montego Bay. 5. What is your favorite finish? I like sheer/jelly finishes (like the NARS Sheer Lipsticks or the MAC Lustres) and mattes (NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, MAC, Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet are my favorite finishes). 6. What …

Adventures in Contouring: Illamasqua Cream Foundation

I could never get contouring right. I have been blessed with a really round face, so usually a contour just looks out of place. I stopped myself from buying bronzers when I reached 3 (though I only ever use one for contour attempts), but when I saw this Illamasqua Cream Foundation in a darker shade on sale for £5 from £23, I thought it was worth giving it a try. It comes in a pinched-square standard Illamasqua packaging. I actually looked for the technical term for this… and it turns out it’s just a square… in hyperbolic, non-Euclidian geometry… … so never mind. It’s just a ‘pinched square’ as far as I’m concerned. Anyway, it comes with a full-sized mirror and a sponge that I don’t use because I don’t intend to use it on my face. I got the shade 320, which is just a couple of notches darker than my original skin color. It’s actually a pretty great contour color. I like how the cream foundation stays put. Product Description: “Create a base …

5 Things Friday: Fussy Lip Products That I Just Can’t Quit

5 Things Friday, it’s been a while. I’m trying to make this series a bit more regular, but lifestuff gets in the way sometimes, you know? Anyway, I’m a self-proclaimed lazy girl, which is probably why it’s surprising that I got into this whole beauty thing in the first place. (Check out my lazy girl face here.) However, there are some fussy beauty products that I can put up with, even with all the added effort. L-R: Le Métier de Beauté Colour Core Moisture Stain Lipstick (Miami), Stylenanda 3CE Lip Lacquer (Boom)*, Illamasqua Matte Lipstick (Immodest), Obsessive Compulsive Metallic Lip Tar (Black Metal Dahlia), Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait (Orgueil) ONE Le Métier de Beauté Colour Core Moisture Stain Lipstick (Miami) This formula is actually one of my favorites for lipsticks, but this color! It’s so unforgiving. I’m unsure as to why I picked this up, and though I like it a lot, it needs to be “matched” to the rest of your makeup and isn’t as flexible as some of my other shades. It also …

Psst, Your Hoarder is Showing: Stuff I Got from Geek Chic Cosmetics

Oops. Someone went a little overboard. I bought a total of 28 eyeshadows from Geek Chic Cosmetics. They’re an indie company that appeals to the geek in me. Much like Shiro Cosmetics (which I love, as you already know), Geek Chic makes collections based on geekery like Harry Potter and Doctor Who. A number of indies actually base their collections of of movies and shows, but Geek Chic’s selection is pretty extensive. So this is what happened, heh. I ordered 27 samples, and they came in clamshells like this. A lot of people hate this packaging and I can see why. It’s tricky to open (I just do it carefully, securing the ‘base’ half firmly on the table and opening the top half carefully) and also tricky to use since the lid tends to close on itself. When you close, you leave behind a puff of product. It’s alright, though. I can live with it. For swatches, I’ve divided everything by collection and in parts. I hope this makes things easier to find on the …

Project 10 Pan Update + Project Make-a-Dent

Hey all, just an update on my Project 10 Pan post from a month ago. I know it seems to early to have an update already, but a lot of the things I picked out were old, so I ended up crossing stuff out from my list pretty early. The empties are: — Majolica Majorca Lash King mascara: I’m pretty generous with giving mascara time, but this one smelled a little funkier the last time I used it, so into the bin it goes. Eye of Horus Natural Mascara*: Tossing because old. Maybelline The Hypercurl Mascara*: It dried out already, sniff. — K-Palette Liquid Eyeliner in 01: The unthinkable happened! I used up a beauty product. Granted, it’s a liquid eyeliner I’ve had for well over a year, but still. It totally counts. Ahava Essential Day Moisturizer*: One of the best, lightweight moisturizers I’ve ever used. Perfect for daily use.

London/Bahrain Swap with Laala of Intermittent Makeup

I met my friend Laala a few years ago on Tumblr, through a friend (Zet). At the time, I had no interest in makeup at all, so what we had in common was a love for literature and reading. Years later, we have another thing in common—getting bitten by the beauty bug. She blogs over at Intermittent Makeup and I’ve featured here on Nosy Beauty already. Since she was going on a trip to London, she thought of getting me a few things from & Other Stories, since she knew I was salivating over looking to try a few things from them. We ended up agreeing to a budget and do a swap instead! This is what she ended up giving me: A pretty London-themed tote // Laura Mercier Hand Crème in Crème Brûlée // & Other Stories Eye Colour in Percaline Khaki // & Other Stories Blush in Canvas Taupe // Barry M (Gelly) Nail Paint in Blood Orange // Barry M Nail Paint in Countess // a few pumps of Burberry Foundation in …

5 Things Friday: Natural Skin Care

This week’s 5 Things Friday features some skin care items on the more natural side of things. By ‘natural,’ I just mean that they are made from relatively a few ingredients that are easily derived from nature. Kinda like a DIY, except someone else did it for me and repackaged them in a convenient(ish) manner. I know there isn’t a lot of variety here, but I think it’s a good place to start!
