Haircut + some FOTDs

Hello! I just wanted to share my haircut with y’all. I got a haircut last Saturday and it’s pretty different from my usual lump of hair—I got bangs and layers! :0 As it happens, I have a bunch of reviews and posts queued up here so you might see some old Carina haircut photos popping up here and there. BUT here is my head as of now:

A Blog Birthday: Some Thoughts on Makeup & Beauty

Hello everyone! If you couldn’t tell from the title, my beauty blog just turned a year old! 🙂 There have been a lot of changes regarding how I regard makeup, beauty, and accumulation. A lot of the ways in which I think and approach cosmetics and this aspect of beauty in my life has changed. I hope you don’t mind if I share them with you. 🙂 Overall, I have cultivated an awareness that was most definitely not there before. I think that’s natural when you learn more about something over time, but that’s the big glaring difference. I am more aware of which types of products work best for my skin tone, skin type, and features. I am more aware of how to actually apply the makeup. (Consider the photos to your left, in which I used the same palette in Nov 2012 & Sept 2013.) I am more aware of what colors suit me better and what things to consider when reviewing and purchasing products. More importantly than all of that, I am …

Sephora Birthday Haul

In my last Makeup No Buy post, I mentioned getting a few things for my birthday. The box arrived yesterday, on Saturday, and I’m fairly excited. 🙂 I only got two sets, but there was a fair amount of samples. First up is the Urban Decay Ocho Loco 2, which won out over the Vice 2 palette and the Shattered Face Case, just because a) I have too many eyeshadows, and b) I’ve never tried Urban Decay eyeliners before. I know, right? Anyway, I’ve only play-tested them out, but I’m pretty happy about all of the colors, and the quality. 🙂 Next, I got a Best of BECCA Set, which includes a Beach Tint (Grapefruit), Eye Tint (Baroque), and travel-sized Shimmering Skin Perfector (Opal), Resurfacing Primer, and The Ultimate Mascara (Black). I can’t wait to try them out, although Grapefruit is quite similar to Guava, which I already have, and Baroque is super sheer. I got a few samples, too. Squee! There’s the Benefit Birthday Set, which has sample sizes of Watt’s Up! and the …

Unboxing: BDJ Box October 2013*

I know I just did an unboxing post, and I don’t normally do those because I haven’t really been buying subscription boxes or much of anything, really. However, I received the October 2013 BDJ Box and it’s a pretty awesome one, I thought I ought to share it, immediately. Like some of their most popular boxes, this month’s box is brand-centric, this time filled with products by Maybelline. I haven’t bought Maybelline products in a while, since I’m steering my makeup purchases towards a more cruelty-free direction, but I can attest to the quality of most of their products, especially their mascara and lip products. Without further ado, here’s what BDJ Box subscribers have in store this month: There’s a lot of ground to cover, so I’ll hop right to it. Named Express It: Queen of Extreme, this Maybelline exclusive box wants to bring out your regal side with full and voluminous lashes using their Volum’Express Rocket Mascara (Php 399). I’ve always wanted to try this mascara, so I’m pretty excited! Also for some definition …

Unboxing & Preview: Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP August Box

Here’s an unboxing/preview post of the Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP box from last August. If you’ve been reading my blog, you’d know that I missed the initial sign-ups (makeup ban, grr!) but then Sarie surprised me with a sub when they opened up again for fifty slots. The LMdB subscription box requires you to pay quite a huge amount upfront, $29/mo, and is locked down for 12 months. Each box was guaranteed to have a full-size product or, I think, a selection of samples, but I knew it would be worth it in terms of cost, because a single LMdB product, at its cheapest ranges from $25 to $30. Because I signed up late, I got my first box in October along with the October box. Since this is the maiden voyage, they really wanted to make an impression, so they went all out! Kaleidoscope Lip Kit in Bauhaus ($95) Arguably the most exciting thing in this box (and the entire collection, so far)—a Kaleidoscope! This is sort of the signature product …

The Bear Necessities: My First Visit to Wink Laser & Wax Studio*

I visited Wink Laser & Wax Studio in Taguig for my first wax treatment. It’s a fairly new establishment that I’ve been hearing about a lot, and it really caught my eye because it looks so clean, even down to the branding and design. I went to get my legs done because, as you can probably tell from my swatches, I am a fairly hairy person. Someone I dated before even exclaimed, “Oh my God, you’re a bear!” after I pointed out my arm hairs. But anyway. My biggest problem area = my legs. I went shave-crazy when I was a young’un and now I am paying for it because I honestly look like a troll when I grow out my leg hair. From the moment I laid my eyes on their reception desk with these cheeky cards, I knew I would love it there: The area is deceptively small, but the waxing rooms are pretty spacious. Everything is clean and sanitary. The white floors are pretty spotless. Check out the trolley with the wax …

Flawless Face Complexion (Sort of.)

Hey everyone! Today, I have a video on how I make my version of a flawless face complexion. This was requested by reader, Amy, and you know me. I oblige too much. Just kidding. 🙂 Anyway, I say that this is my version because I very rarely wear full-coverage makeup and I don’t personally like the look of it on me. This seems long-winded and unnecessary, but I promise that it’s not! I use pretty standard products—which I will get into in a bit—and the look is pretty natural and not too “done.” There is an attractiveness to “undone-ness,” let us remember that! The video is helpful because I do it in order, and I show, a little of how to apply each step. 🙂 If you want to learn more about the products, then read on.
