Nosy Beauty Vol. 4: Gia

For Nosy Beauty Vol. 4, we have Gia! She is currently a grad student at the journalism school in Ateneo and a full-time news writer for ANC (among several side-gigs) and my Internet friend. I don’t really even remember how we became friends, but when the makeup talk happened, it just became one big giant flailing party. “My favorite makeup product is matte red lipstick, hands down.” Let’s take a look at what’s in her bag! Here’s my “everyday” kit! I say “everyday” loosely; I really only wear a decently full face of makeup 3-4 afternoons a week including weekends. BASE: Vichy Aera Mineral BB Cream in Natural, Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in 52 Vanilla, MAC Studio Fix powder foundation in NC40, CVS Advanced Healing ointment “The CVS ointment is basically heavy-duty moisturizer, for my lips and dry skin patches. On hot days in Manila, I also like to use Revlon Photoready Perfecting primer instead of the BB cream, because it’s great at making your foundation sweat-proof. I use Studio Fix to set.” CONCEALER: YSL …

Out now: Le Métier de Beauté’s Galore Palette

I’ve been noticing a trend going on with Le Métier de Beauté Palettes. I think Galore is the third or fourth 8-pan blush/eyeshadow palette they’ve released lately. I received an email from Nyidera Edwards, an LMdB makeup artist at the Saks Fifth Avenue counter in Bala Cynwyd Pennsylvania, with some swatches. Designed by Mikey Castillo, the Director of Makeup at Le Métier de Beauté, Galore has 4 blush shades: Dusk (a classic pinky-peach), The Factory (a bright pink), Coral Reef (a golden shimmered warm coral), and Punta Cana (a satin blonde bronze). It also has 4 eyeshadow shades: Topaz (warm shimmering copper), Quartz (soft lavender), Tanzanite (deep indigo with flecks of gold), and Diamond Noir (glinting onyx). The palette is priced at $125 and is only available at Saks Fifth Avenue. You lucky ducks in the US can place an order by calling Nyidera at 610-667-1550 ext. 169. If you decide to check it out, let Nyidera know that I sent you! 🙂 This post is not sponsored. Le Métier de Beauté is cruelty-free.

Confessions of a Lip-Licker

I am a lip-licker. I don’t mean to be one, it’s just a habit of mine. I think it mostly has to do with my need to get rid of any and all dry flakes on my lips when I encounter them. Lipstick formula and longevity is marginally important to me, because I tend to lick off lipstick anyway. When I started this beauty blog, I tried to stop this habit to properly test the lipstick longevity, and also because I heard that ingesting lipstick is bad because of lead content and other icky ingredients. The other problem with lipstick-licking is that my lipstick starts out immaculate and then wears off into a real stupid mess. Sometimes, there will be a lip liner ring where a slick of lipstick used to be. Other times, it’s a jungle of dry skin with lipstick koalas clung onto them. When this happens—smushy ex-dry flakes with lipstick clingers in a sticky mess on my lips—I resort to licking my lips anyway. This does little to remedy the problem. It’s …

VIDEO: What Did I Pack for Vietnam?

Here’s a “What did I pack?” video for the trip I’m currently on, aka Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam! My cousin lives there right now and we figured that now’s as good a time as any to visit them and the country. I made a “packing light” post before, outlining a makeup bag (read it here) but it was for a trip to Japan, which is much colder than Vietnam. (At least, in my head.) I actually ended up switching out a bunch of items in there, predictably, but I think I’m pretty set on this. I’ll edit this post if I ended up changing anything. PRODUCTS MENTIONED: — The Body Shop Brow & Liner Kit (02) — Nichido Clear Mascara — MAC Paint Pot (Bare Study) — bareMinerals READY 4.0 (The Happy Place) — Rouge Bunny Rouge Eye Pencil (Lola) — Maybelline Hypercurl Mascara — NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (Alaska) — Physician’s Formula Youthful Wear Cosmeceutical Youth-Boosting Powder (Matte, Translucent) — ADDICTION Cheek Stick (Tea Rose) — Korres Lip Butter (Jasmine) — Maybelline …

Of a Kind Haul

I have a love/hate relationship with hauls. On the one hand, I really, really like being nosy and looking at what other people bought. On the other hand, I’m kind of iffy about sharing what I bought. In this case, though, I’m super excited! This is also my way of trying to inject “style” back into this blog. I have a very basic “style,” if you could even call it that. I mean, I really try, but it can be a little off. I’ve gained a bit of weight in the past two years and I’m not really used to my body being this big. But that’s not even the point of this post, because I only bought 1 piece of clothing. So, LOL. Enough about that! Of a Kind was formed in NYC by two ladies, and they basically release “editions” of items that they invite designers of all kinds to create for Of a Kind. There are x “of a kind” of each item, so they are all limited edition, technically. I forgot …

So You Want to Build a MAC Quad? Part II

This is part two of my “MAC Quad” series. I don’t know if I’ll be doing a third, but if I think of more, I probably will! If you’re new to my blog, this “series” is a way to help you build your MAC eyeshadow collection by suggesting four shades you can play around with/get the most use out of. I tried including “fun” and unusual colors into the mix, which I hope you appreciate. You can check the first post here. Without further ado, here’s what I have for you today! Pinky Promise — All That Glitters, Da Bling, Satin Taupe, Sketch Here’s a quad that’s a little airy-fairy light, but can be built up to a substantial smokiness, or just a bit of drama. I forgot to number these, so (Your) Left Look:, All That Glitters all over the lid, with Satin Taupe at the outer ‘v’. Crease deepened with Sketch. Outer third of lower lash line smudged with Sketch, which blended into Da Bling. (Your) Right Look: Da Bling on the center …

Mineral Madness Day 7: Hope for Taupe under the Coconut Palms

For the last day of Mineral Madness, I have a super simple eye look using a pink, sparkly eyeshadow from bareMinerals called Hope. I learned a trick from Patricia Lee of shu uemura for using pink eyeshadow. When you balance it with browns, you lessen the risk of looking like you are sickly or have pink eye. For this look, I put Hope on the inner half of the lid, the other half of which I patted on Coconut Palms. On the crease, I blended in Velvet Taupe, which was from A Vision in Velvet. Hope you enjoyed this series! Watch out for my “tips & tricks” later today. Stay tuned for another round of Mineral Madness in the future. 🙂
