To Buy or Not to Buy: New Things in My Email Inbox

That is the age-old question. Do I succumb to consumerism or do I make like an adult and resist? I’m not quite sure as to which camp I belong to, but I do like seeing pictures of pretty things in my inbox every once in a while. If I like it enough, I’m glad that there’s an option for me to get it. Take the newly-released edition from ofakind, Furies Ring by Unearthen, which is all sorts of beautiful and charming. I love that the gem is a little bit bigger and unpolished than what I’m used to seeing. I love that it’s all held up together by something that looks like a claw, and that it’s balancing on one edge instead of being in perfect equilibrium. Still thinking on this, but if you want to gobble it up, head on over to ofakind, since there’s only 40 of these in existence. ($ 160) I don’t even remember subscribing to the Barneys newsletter. I think I subscribed when I was eyeing a pair of Citizens …

Counter Swatch: NARS x Andy Warhol

I dropped by the NARS counter yesterday and took a few quick swatches of their holiday collection, which is a collaboration with Andy Warhol. Sarie asked Robbie, the SA, to hold an Edie Set for me, but I wanted to look at some of the other products, too. The sets are rather pretty. The two collections that are not exclusive to Sephora seem to be available here, except for the polishes. TV Party, an orange shade, is the only individual polish that seems to be available in Manila. The Larger Than Life Lipglosses (Php 1450) are the first ones I swatched. In order, from the top: Viva, Penny Arcade, International Velvet, Candy Says, and Holly Woodlawn. The formulation is rather nice, though sticky. I was turned off by gloss a few years ago, and this is the first one I’ve tried—and liked—since “going off” of glosses. The Soft Touch Shadow Pencils are a tricky subject, something I’m willing to try, but perhaps not right now. Top to bottom, Calabria (not part of this collection, but …

Maison Martin Margiela with H&M

Here is a pretty cool, pretty creepy film for a new H&M—which I have now just learned stands for “Hennes and Mauritz”—collaboration. As per what the YouTube description says: The collaboration with H&M presents a re-edition of iconic Maison Martin Margiela garments and accessories for men and women. Each piece is specifically labeled with a unique tag indicating the season from which its originated, spanning 23 years since the Maison’s funding. The most representative pieces of Maison Martin Margiela are reproduced in updated shapes and materials and offered to the broad public as an exclusive synopsis of their history. The Maison Martin Margiela with H&M collection will be available in selected stores and online at http://www.hm.com/maisonmartinmargiela November 15th. The shapes are quite interesting, though I don’t know about the wearability of these, especially here in Manila. Which, I guess makes sense that we don’t actually have an H&M store here. I don’t think I’ve ever caught a collaboration/collection release at H&M except for the Lana del Ray stuff. Anyway, it’s a cool film, though I …

NARS x Andy Warhol Counter

I was a sick over the long holiday (lucky me!), so Sarie took a photo of the NARS x Andy Warhol counter for me. I will try and swatch them tomorrow, and maybe pick up a few things, too. My makeup ban is lifted if there are a) special GOOD DEAL sales, and b) limited edition items that I must acquire. I can’t wait to see these for myself tomorrow. (!) I will update you guys with another edition of a Counter Swatch, or if I’m lucky, a Real Review!

NARS Andy Warhol Collection

I heard about NARS’s collaboration with Andy Warhol back in late August, but really didn’t think much of it after reading not-so-stellar reviews. However, upon a second look, I’ve found a few products I wouldn’t mind trying out. For the record, I love NARS. The first product of theirs I’ve ever tried was, of course, Orgasm (in blush form). Scandalous name, but really after typing it out and saying it so many times, it has no meaning to me anymore. Except a pretty pink flushed blush, that is! It would be a while before I purchased any more NARS products, mainly because I didn’t really know what I wanted to try out. Then, I came back to a NARS counter and purchased a sheer, dark lipstick (Vendanges) and my first hint of love for eyeshadows (Ramatuelle). And now I’m pretty much in love. So, the Andy Warhol collection comes in three “waves”—a holiday collection, a gift set collection, and one that’s exclusive to Sephora. I won’t bother with the Sephora collection, because they don’t accept …

Lady Dior Web Documentary

While looking for my favorite Spring 2013 looks on the runway, I stumbled upon a sweet video made for The House of Dior. Part 4 of the web documentary, Lady Dior, it features charming illustrations and a song with the lyrics written and sung by Marion Cotillard. Entitled Lily’s Body, the fourth episode depicts the history of Dior in a romantic, Parisienne animation. Naturally, I looked for the rest. Episode 1: Fantasia – Marion Cotillard visits the Dior workshops and oversees the work on her gown for Cannes. Episode 2: Up and Up – In which we get a peek at the beautiful, constructed dress, some behind-the-scenes shots at photoshoots, and a glimpse of her singing a Beirut song. “The expertise of so many people at the service of one person’s imagination, craftsmanship at the service of art: I find it all quite fascinating.” — Marion Cottillard Episode 3: La métamorphose – A photoshoot for Dior with Marion Cottilard donning some very beautiful haute couture dresses. It’s better to watch them all in order. I …

Sneak Peek: Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura

A few days ago, I got a text from the Shu Uemura branch in Trinoma, announcing a pre-launch of their collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld. I had been seriously jonesin’ for these little treasures (!) since Sarie shot the press launch a few weeks back. I keep dropping by Shu branches to check, but the collection is slated for local release on the first week of November. On October 28, though, Shu Fanatics were given a chance to sample and purchase the items in the collection. Naturally, I jumped at the chance! The collection features four Rouge Unlimited Lipsticks, swatched here. From L-R: Mon Shu Red, Parisienne Pink, Celebrity Beige, and Luxe Burgundy. The shades are wonderful and the formula was smooth, with decent color payoff. My sister and I actually ended up getting three shades. The collection features a special limited edition eyelash curler with a red pad and a Mon Shu Charm (so cute!), a pretty set of Premium Eyelashes, and two six-shade eyeshadow palettes, Prestigious Bordeaux and Smoky Velvet (pictured below). The SA …
