January Favorites

I’ve been in quite the beauty rut lately, despite the seemingly endless supply of new makeup products in the mail. New makeup products that I bought with my money… so it’s definitely not an endless supply. It just seems like it is because they’re coming all at once! Since I was in a beauty rut, this is going to be a short list this month, I think. I also did not go out all that much in January (hermit alert), so I’m really at some sort of loss, I suppose. Nevertheless, here are my January Favorites! There are some great products that I was able to try and use late into the month. 1. Le Métier de Beauté Sheer Brilliance Lip Gloss in Bondi Beach (Review — $32; Nordstrom) I would say that the biggest “beauty rut” I was in last month concerned lip products! I didn’t know what to use. I got so tired of “dark, berry lips,” and it never felt quite right. I would finish a look and then add a lip …

Fall in Love with bareMinerals READY Luminizer in The Love Affair

I’m going to be doing a bunch of quick reviews for recently-hauled items, just to get them “out of the way.” I love writing about products, obviously, and talking about what makes them great and whatnot but it’s hard to do consistently when I’m in the middle of Day Job things and when I only have one face to test the products on. So, there’s that. For today, I have a quick review on a pressed luminizer by bareMinerals. The READY Luminizer in The Love Affair is described as a “pink nectar glow.” It’s rose gold and cooler, when compared to its sister, the Luminizer in The Shining Moment, which is more yellow gold. I chose this because I wanted to be more ‘pink’ than ‘gold,’ though I don’t think I would be able to tell the difference, really. It’s not the product’s fault. I’m just not very discerning. The Luminizer comes in a bluish white plastic compact, with a full-size mirror and a beautiful stamped Art Deco inspired pattern. I don’t like the packaging …

Be the Life of the Party with bareMinerals Ready 8.0: The September Issue

I just can’t get enough of bareMinerals’ READY eyeshadows. They’re truly top-notch quality with an extremely velvety texture and wide selection of shades. I first picked up a READY duo in France during a wait for a train (bored people go to Sephora), then a quad about a month or so after. When bareMinerals went on sale, I decided to pick up two eight-pan palettes since they were marked down, and also because I felt bad about missing out on The Playlist, which I had been eyeing. Hello, Retail Therapy. You rang? (Although, I think I just have unnaturally grabby hands.) Anyway, here’s the first—and more expensive—of the two, The September Issue. I picked this up partly because of the name. I have always dreamed of working in magazines, and also, I am a September baby! I think this palette gives me room to play around more, too. I gravitate towards more neutral anything, and I’m at a place where I’d like to be more adventurous. The September Issue seems to invite that quality. There’s …

Mail Time! My first bareMinerals Order

I haven’t been perusing makeup counters in a while. Physically, anyway. I’ve rather been click-happy when it comes to cosmetics post-Christmas, because I had some extra money from gifts and such. I tucked most of it in the bank, but of course, I couldn’t help shopping for some items for myself, too. The trouble with shopping online is that it always feels like I have to go through hoops and needle eyes before I get my things. Two weeks into the new year and I’ve “acquired” a lot of items but haven’t gotten any of them. It’s a rather odd feeling to have less money but nothing in my hands. I suppose that’s a test of patience, which I wasn’t particularly good at to begin with, anyway. I was about to give in and run to the nearest mall to just buy something to get rid of this makeup itch, when a package arrived at my doorstep! Yay, bareMinerals! You have saved the day. I ordered these when a bunch of items I was looking …

A Tiny Lament: bareMinerals’ Ready 8.0 in The Playlist

Ever since I swatched a couple of bareMinerals’ Ready 2.0 shadows, I have been increasingly obsessed at looking at swatches and thinking of what to buy next (lol, I know), but holding off until December 15, which is when my makeup ban will be lifted. I think I’ve been pretty good at keeping it, faltering only once for a MAC Paint Pot, and lipstick and gloss from NARS. (My new Revlon sale stash doesn’t count because it was from my mom!) ANYWAY. My obsessive self checked the bareMinerals website again today and the 8-pan palette I was eyeing—bareMinerals Ready 8.0 in The Playlist—was nowhere to be found! Panic-stricken, I found it on Amazon, but with an added $5 for shipping to the US and only 6 stocks left. Why do I want it so much? Introducing an extraordinary limited-edition palette, featuring 8 pure, intense, provocative shades in a glitzy gold case. An innovative new solid mineral technology that delivers spectacular stay-true color with seamless blendability and anti-aging benefits. I had the bright idea of checking …

Playlist: 4 Eye Looks Using bareMinerals’ A Vision in Velvet

Here’s a closeup of my “new discovery” in this post. I’d gotten bareMinerals’ A Vision in Velvet without prior knowledge as to how to apply and work with mineral shadows. As a result, I was met with a disastrous first impression. However, with my faith in this product renewed by the awesomeness of a layer of MAC Paint Pot in Rubenesque all over my lid, I set out to try out some more combinations. After all, the thing comes in twenty shades. My eyes glazed over as I tried to come up with the permutations for those colors. As was mentioned, the first look (above) is just the Rubenesque Paint Pot all over the lid, with Satin Plum on the crease and the inner and outer corners. Pretty. It’s pretty subtle, too, with the shimmers visible only up close. Here, I just swiped Velvet Violet over the center of a lid, for an overall purple-y look. It’s a little less warm and a little more intense (for some reason?). Next, I started with a clean …

Playlist: MAC Paint Pot (Rubenesque) & bareMinerals Satin Plum

I lifted my makeup ban and got a MAC paint pot yesterday, which I had been meaning to for a while. Paint Pots are essentially cream eyeshadows that you can wear alone or as a base for your eyeshadows. I don’t know if they have other functions, but I think that alone is pretty cool in itself. I got it in Rubenesque, which is a beautiful peach bronze that has hints of rose at some turns. Anyway, I’ll review this some other time, but all you really need to know is that I really freaking love it so much. In the middle of uploading work stuff, I decided to play with my new paint pot and one of the shades that came with bareMinerals’ A Vision in Velvet, which let’s face it, really swatched pretty horribly. Not one to give up on underperforming things—and also things that cost me $80—I was eager to try and make a few looks with some of the shades. This is the first look I’ve tried in literally three minutes, …
