theBalm’s Nude ‘Tude Eyeshadow Palette

A few months ago, I helped fill up a Balikbayan box with Sarie and my brother, Luis. At that point, I was not into makeup a lot, but I had started exploring by then. One of the items that caught my eye was theBalm’s Nude ‘Tude Eyeshadow Palette. I didn’t really bother surveying other palettes, since I didn’t think I would ever venture into the world of shimmery shadows. It’s why I opted for this palette, instead of the beauty nut staple, Urban Decay’s Naked. (You are going to be wrong at least one more time in your life, Carina.) Nude ‘Tude swatches on my arm. I have a bad habit of starting a row in the middle of my arm, leaving no room for the next row of swatches. Nude ‘Tude contains twelve shadows, covering the delicate parts of six pin-up girls. I mentioned before how I liked it when palette colors have individual names. Included in this palette are: Sassy: a frosted white Snobby: a sheer, shimmery yellow Stubborn:a pale shimmery pinkish peach …

A Tiny Lament: bareMinerals’ Ready 8.0 in The Playlist

Ever since I swatched a couple of bareMinerals’ Ready 2.0 shadows, I have been increasingly obsessed at looking at swatches and thinking of what to buy next (lol, I know), but holding off until December 15, which is when my makeup ban will be lifted. I think I’ve been pretty good at keeping it, faltering only once for a MAC Paint Pot, and lipstick and gloss from NARS. (My new Revlon sale stash doesn’t count because it was from my mom!) ANYWAY. My obsessive self checked the bareMinerals website again today and the 8-pan palette I was eyeing—bareMinerals Ready 8.0 in The Playlist—was nowhere to be found! Panic-stricken, I found it on Amazon, but with an added $5 for shipping to the US and only 6 stocks left. Why do I want it so much? Introducing an extraordinary limited-edition palette, featuring 8 pure, intense, provocative shades in a glitzy gold case. An innovative new solid mineral technology that delivers spectacular stay-true color with seamless blendability and anti-aging benefits. I had the bright idea of checking …

Guerlain Turandot Eyeshadow Palette

Turandot is a 4-shadow palette (Écrin 4 Coueleurs Eyeshadow) from Guerlain’s 2012 Holiday Collection, Liu. Named after the Asian heroine Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot, as well as the classic Guerlain scent, Liu explores and visualizes the themes of passion and femininity, tied off with a heavy dose of Orientalism. Because I might as well be a grubby little mole hermit, I went on to Nordstrom and ordered a palette for myself. It’s easily the most I’ve spent on a quad, alas, it was too pretty to pass up. Also, I didn’t know if this would hit Manila shores. The SA I talked to when I went to get my météorites said that it would be a while before it was available here. Thankfully, the shades are easily worn, and I do intend to wear the frak out of this palette. (When I checked Nordstrom for a specific link, I couldn’t find it anymore, so I guess I made the right call. No? Oh, okay.) Turandot features a light yellow-orangey gold (good for a base, highlighting and …
