Mineral Madness Day 4: Nestyr Lingered in Twilight Mist

We made it to Day 4 of Mineral Madness, where I take on the challenge to try to make 7 eye looks with mineral eyeshadow! To address some questions: — nope, I am not using any other mineral makeup besides eyeshadow — BUT, a mineral makeup foundation, etc. post is in the works — a rough guide for mineral n00bs is also in the works, as you guys had some questions for me in the comments — also, I may post more looks but perhaps in the next month or much later For Day 4, I decided to do a very soft look using three eyeshadows, two from Shiro Cosmetics and one from the bareMinerals holiday set, A Vision in Velvet. Here is what I came up with: I made a soft crease gradient with bM’s Satin Mist, which is a sort of light silver grey, with very slight, imperceptible shimmer. It’s pretty matte, actually. Makeup Inventory: Eyeshadow Quads

I’ve been racking my brain for an “eyeshadow special” post that I can do, much like my Lipstick Week, but I can’t think of anything at the moment, so I’m going to show you my collection of quads. 🙂 I LOVE eyeshadow palettes. Those are decidedly my weakness. I showed you my favorite palettes a while ago, and here are all of my quads, aka 4-shadow palettes. I have six in total, clockwise from the top left: Guerlain Les 4 Couleurs in Turandot, Le Métier de Beauté Kaleidoscope Eye Kit in Northern Lights, Suqqu Eyeshadow in Sumiredama, Chanel Ombres Fleuries in Délicatesse, Le Métier de Beauté Kaleidoscope Eye Kit in Silk Road, and bareMinerals READY 4.0 in The Happy Place. Shiro Cosmetics Pre-Ban Haulage & Semi-Reviews

I was telling fairytalesandcoffee about the unfortunate way my shopping seems to creep up on me. Not long after I banned myself from buying any more makeup, it started raining makeup because all of the other items I ordered prior to shunning (new) makeup purchases from my life started arriving. This haul from Shiro Cosmetics, which I luuuuv. Anyway, this is what I ended up getting. Read what I got during my first order here. They come in three sizes, full-sized pots, mini pots, and sample baggies. The full-sized ones come with stickers at the top. I bought 4 (I forgot to photograph 1), they’re lined up on the first column: It’s Gonna Be MAY! (LOL), Nestyr, and TARDIS (!). The mini pot I got is a pink shadow called Wildflowers, and it was from the Hunger Games Collection. NARS Duo in Paramaribo

This NARS Duo called Paramaribo is one that I really wanted to love. It’s one of the first NARS Duos I got, the other one being Habanera (review) and I was so impressed by how velvety-soft the eyeshadows were, and how beautiful the pigmentation of both colors were. Paramaribo came out with NARS’ Spring 2012 collection, and it pairs two colors—a metallic brass & metallic bronze—together. To me, it just looks like two different greens, but as we’ve already established, I am sometimes unrefined. 🙂 Anyway, I busted it out for a proper review as it seems to be a very beautiful, very sunny duo. “Paramaribo” is the capital in Suriname, South America. It is located near the Suriname river, and viewed from the top, you can see where they may have culled inspiration from, when creating this duo. Suriname has a very rich history of European colonization, as well as very a diverse populace with a variety of religions, cultures, and beliefs. Softly Special: My Top Five Favorite Eye Palettes

I know I did Lipstick Week not too long ago, but the truthiest truth out there is that I’m an eyeshadow lady. I fricken love the stuff. I think that’s really where it all went downhill. I can remember the first eye product I purchased that changed everything and how I looked at eye makeup (i.e. bareMinerals’ READY 2.0 in The Scenic Route). And then I was doomed to a life of swatching. I don’t know if I want to make a whole week’s worth of celebration out of this, because eye swatches are much, much harder to do than lipstick swatches, but I’ll begin by outing my favorite eye palettes for all of you. What I basically look for in eyeshadow palettes is versatility, which I feel like entails a good variety of tone, texture, and shade. The Perfect Neutral Eye with a Pop: NARS Duo in Grand Palais

I wasn’t going to get this particular duo, but it caught my eye. I was lemming for Charade for the longest time, but found that it didn’t swatch very well on my skintone and I feared it would look a little flat. So, I ended up choosing between this, Grand Palais, and Kuala Lumpur, which is somewhat similar but had two shimmery shades. Robbie, the SA, said this was a better option and you know me, I am very easy to convince. The two colors in this duo are a “silver taupe” and a “dusty rose.” The reason why I chose this over Kuala Lumpur, which I was instantly attracted to, is because of the finishes. The silver taupe shade has a slight sheen to it, nothing overly shimmery, and the dusty rose shade is a full-on matte. This is pretty much a full eye look right here, which is what duos are supposed to be for, right? Here are two colors from the duo, as well as a swatch where I have them blended …

First Shiro Cosmetics Purchase: The Tributes Collection & There and Back Again: A Hobbit Collection

I first heard about Shiro Cosmetics from Jen of Barely Organized Chaos, when she posted her loose shadow inventory. And you know me—I’m a sucker for geeky things and aptly-named things. I literally buy shit (not literal shit) because of what they’re called. Shiro Cosmetics released two collections that I fell for—hook, line, and sinker. The older collection is called “The Tributes,” and it’s based on Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games, which I love. The newer/newest one is called “There & Back Again,” and it’s based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,” which I LOVE MORE. So I pretty much was headed to Mount Doom at this point. Still, I did manage to hold back, and didn’t purchase the entire collections. In hindsight, I kinda wish I did, but it’s always good to not be a total hoarder. A little background: Shiro Cosmetics is owned by Caitlin, who loves makeup and geeky things.
