Rounding Things Out: MAKE Colour New Medieval Palette

Just an interlude from the Wes posts (I’ll just be posting two more): an actual review! You know when you’re “not collecting” things, but you have one or two things missing from your “non-collection” and it just seems wrong not to get the last one? Well… That’s what happened here. MAKE Colour, a New York based brand that I am pretty much in love with, currently has four palettes, three of which I already had… which left the New Medieval Palette. This was what I originally wanted when I discovered MAKE (though this was the only one they had out at the time, if I remember correctly), so I kind of had my heart set on it already anyway. My Favorite Matte Lipstick Formulas

Hey everyone! Before I left for my pretty extended vacation, I thought I’d whip up a post showing you my favorite matte lipstick formulas. I’m pretty picky with lip products, though my stash may not seem like it. I figured out, for example, that I’m not really into very glossy lips or frost finishes. I’m pretty okay with satin or creams, but my (second) favorite kind of lip is a matte one. I think it’s because I have pretty full lips anyway—shininess just exaggerates my pout and not in a way that I appreciate. I know mattes have a reputation for being fussy, so here are my favorite formulas to help you maybe find yours. Now, there are a lot of “matte” lip products that only masquerade as such. MAKE Colour Celeste e Verde Palette*

I first saw the MAKE Colour Celeste e Verde Palette* on Bea‘s Instagram, which rekindled my interest in the brand. Celeste e Verde was created by Maryam Nassir Zadeh and Ozzy Salvatierra for MAKE. The Celeste e Verde (Sky Blue and Green) makeup collection is inspired by Antonioni’s 1964 film “Red Desert.” It reflects a woman and her style in life: a life that feels spiritual, artful and authentic. The palette is a colourful mix of contemporary pastels, fiery brights and seaside blues. Colors are nostalgic, fresh and natural. I looked at some stills of Red Desert and this entire collection is a spitting image of that color story.

I was sent three shades from the Ellis Faas Hot Lips* range, which is their “latest revolutionary texture for the lips.” Ellis Faas, a Dutch photographer and makeup artist cited by Vogue Paris as “one of the most influential make-up artists of her time,” began her own line of makeup in 2009. Harry Potter Week: A Red for Every House

Just a quick Harry Potter post today. I wasn’t going to put anything up because I’ve been trying (and clearly failing) to post less frequently. Anyway, it didn’t seem right to post so many non-Harry Potter things on my self-imposed Harry Potter Week, so I thought up a fun post! Harry Potter is known for Hogwarts and Hogwarts is known for its housing system. Basically, the school segregates you into “houses,” according to your basest of personalities and deep-seated traits. There are four houses and I’ve got four red lipsticks to match to them. Now, I’m not looking for trouble. Feel free to disagree with my designations. These are only four red lipsticks in the world of red lipsticks, and these selections are just based on my own opinion. Please feel free to chime in and declare a red lipstick your own pick for a Hogwarts house.

Last week, I got invited to Pixy’s Launch here in Manila. I rarely get to go to events because of prior commitments and work deadlines, but I’m glad I got to swing by this one. If you recall, BDJ released a Pixy-centric box back in April. I enjoyed a lot of the products I got in that box, so I’m glad that they’ve finally reached our shores. Lazy Girl Makeup: Pops of Color

Non-neutral colorful makeup can be intimidating when you look at other people’s faces who are at ease with it. But not everyone can pair a hot pink lip with a hazy purple smokey eye. But fear not! There is an easy way to add some color into your look. If you’re unsure about combinations or are just too lazy to bother, I suggest doing your makeup the same way, but focusing the color action on just one part of your face. Sort of easing the rainbow in, if you will. EYES This is the most obvious way to me, since I don’t usually go crazy with lip colors. You don’t have to look like a rainbow barfed all over you. I usually just rim my lower lash line with a colored liner and call it a day. You can also switch out a neutral shade you always use for a beautiful color you don’t usually use.
