I get a lot of requests to feature drugstore makeup on this blog. The reason why I haven’t been doing so is that I don’t use a ton of drugstore makeup, because it’s twice the price I would get it for in the States. I would rather buy something a little bit more expensive but higher end than spend my money on drugstore makeup that I don’t feel like I’ll get much use out of. After all, I buy 95% of the stuff on here. I’ve only received a box from BDJ Box and a Candy Cane Chapstick. There’s nothing wrong with drugstore makeup, but considering the Manila price point, I’d rather pay a little bit more for “better quality” makeup. Phew.
Obviously, not all drugstore makeup is a waste of money. I was proven that point when I picked up the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains (review) and ended up loving them to bits. Today, I decided to use just drugstore products for my “color” makeup. I used Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow liquid foundation, bareMinerals Mineral Veil, and The Body Shop Brow and Liner Kit (02) as the “base” and for essentials. But I was otherwise drugstore all the way!
For this simple, neutral everyday look, I used Maybelline 24H Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe over my entire lid up to the crease. This is an easy favorite for me and I just got it today. LOL. I guess I am easy to please like that.
Next, I used the Wet ‘n Wild Color Icon Trio Eyeshadow in Walking on Eggshells (hauled here), which everyone and their mother has raved about. It’s a decent neutral trio that packs a lot of pigment and has a shimmery finish but no fallout. I used the eyelid color on the inner 2/3 of the lid, the crease color on my crease and the outer 1/3 of the lid. Then, I used the browbone color on the inner corder of the lid for a brightening~ effect. I found these shadows to be a bit too shimmery for browbone highlights or for the bottom lashline, though.
On my cheeks is the NYX Powder Blush in Bourgeois Pig, which is super pink. I didn’t think I would be able to wear this but it’s super pretty and easy to blend.
On the lips, I just have Revlon ColorStay Liquid Lipstick in Premier Plum (reviewed here), which is still my favorite among the three shades I got.
When I got home, a package was waiting for me! I ordered a bunch of stuff off of ASOS a few weeks ago, and they just arrived. Here, I’ve worn the look with one of the items I got, Rimmel London Kate Moss Matte Lipstick in 101. It’s such a pale pink! Normally, I would never reach for this color but I ordered online and didn’t know it was going to look like that on my lips.
But now that I look at it more, I think I kind of like it?
Anyway, that’s it for my super simple drugstore look! If you’re just starting out with makeup or something, this is a very easy look to wear (and acquire!) everyday.

You’re right about the high mark up on drugstore brands. Nakakahinayang! When I went to the states, wapakels pa ako sa make-up. Sayang!! Yung elf brushes dun $1 lang and most covergirl nasa $7 – $17 lang. The lipsmackers that retails here at Php179 a piece, that’s $9 for 8 lipsmackers!
(Oops napasobra ng example.)
On a different note, I can’t wait for your review on Benefit’s Hello Flawless. I’m very interested on what you have to say about it!
Yeah, that’s what makes me not want to buy 😦
It is such a bummer how high prices are for some of these brands 😦 but i agree, I would totally do the same thing as you!
Seriously, I keep wanting to try Revlon, etc. BUT D: So expensive! Haha. Glad to know I’m not totally insane~
Not insane at all! You just need a friend in the states! Or a trip to buy all the goodies! Lol
LOL the trip itself would be more expensive than what I end up saving!
True but you know, a trip not just for the sole purpose of buying stuff LOL
Maybelline 24H Color Tattoo (tough as taupe) is one of my HGs. I often use it as a base. It stays put for hours! I also have audacious asphalt (steel gray with tiny glitter bits), but it doesn’t stay on as well or as long as taupe. Weird.
I LOVE TOUGH AS TAUPE ❤ I think it may be the finish? Tough as Taupe is one of the only two matte shades in the collection, if I'm not mistaken! I believe I've read that the ones with shimmer apply a bit more patchily than the matte shades. I hope they come out with matte neutrals!
So do I! The fall line had a nice beige one and a forest green one, but they were all metallic finishes.
Can you do a review for Benefit’s Hello Flawless, please? 🙂
Working on it. 🙂
