Le Métier de Beauté Kaleidoscope Eye Kit in Silk Road

So, I caved. I got another Kaleidoscope Eye Kit from Le Métier de Beauté. What’s a Kaleidoscope Eye Kit, you say? I talk about them, at length, over here. This is a very, very, very careful purchase, just because I don’t exactly have an extra $95 lying around at my disposal all the time. Anyway, I expressed disappointment over the first Eye Kaleidoscope. Northern Lights wasn’t as pigmented as I expected it to be. But I couldn’t shake off the feeling that LMDB SHADOWS ARE MEANT TO BE BETTER THAN THIS. So I bought another one. Naturally. (Source) This pretty thing is called Silk Road. It refers to trade routes that “connected Afro-Eurasian landmass.” Though the routes were used for several trade systems (and certain diseases like the Bubonic Plague), it was primarily used, or I guess, known for its role in the promulgation of Chinese silk. I think Le Métier de Beauté is excellent at naming their colors! This eye kit has a beautiful contrasting richness to it that was sadly absent from Northern …

January Favorites

I’ve been in quite the beauty rut lately, despite the seemingly endless supply of new makeup products in the mail. New makeup products that I bought with my money… so it’s definitely not an endless supply. It just seems like it is because they’re coming all at once! Since I was in a beauty rut, this is going to be a short list this month, I think. I also did not go out all that much in January (hermit alert), so I’m really at some sort of loss, I suppose. Nevertheless, here are my January Favorites! There are some great products that I was able to try and use late into the month. 1. Le Métier de Beauté Sheer Brilliance Lip Gloss in Bondi Beach (Review — $32; Nordstrom) I would say that the biggest “beauty rut” I was in last month concerned lip products! I didn’t know what to use. I got so tired of “dark, berry lips,” and it never felt quite right. I would finish a look and then add a lip …

Quickie: Chanel Spring 2013 Acquisitions

Here’s a short post on some recent acquisitions from the Chanel Precieux Printemps Collection for 2013. Precieux Printemps translates to “precious spring” and the girliness of the whole collection seems to embody that. I didn’t expect to get anything from the collection, just because it seemed pretty basic and dainty. Alas. I ended up picking up 4 items from the collection. I initially just intended on picking up the blush, because I didn’t have a coral/peach blush in my collection yet. And then, Duty Free happened. I asked Sarie to pick up one lip color from the collection (Envoutante), and then I ended up asking her to get me the two others (Captivante & La Favorite) I’d been eyeing as well. In order of want: Chanel Rouge Allure in Envoutante, aka the shade I was sure I wanted. This is one of my first Rouge Allure shades. It’s a deep plummy shade with some shimmer and some slick to it. I’m not sure I like this formula over the other Chanel ones I’ve tried (Rouge …

Drugstore Finds: Small Sunday Haul

Sunday is my drugstore day because my family and I stop by a mall near our church after lunch. Here’s three items I picked up, from L-R: Flormar Supermatte Lipstick in 209, Etude House Apricot Stick in 3 (Apple), Wet ‘n Wild Color Icon Trio in Walking on Eggshells. Hand swatches from the two lip products. Left: Etude House Apricot Stick, Right: Flormar Supermatte Lipstick in 209. The two thin lines were leftover swatches from my drugstore trip. I wanted the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, but they are too expensive here (Php 575 or about $15). The Etude House Apricot Sticks are just Php 198 each and a good buy if you want to try out a similar higher end/more expensive product. It gives good moisture, but it’s not sustained. The shade I got, 3 or Apple, is a light coral pink. It smells and tastes like apple! I like it a lot and will probably get more shades. 🙂 The Flormar Supermatte lipstick (Php 399) “[has a] velvety structure that gives the …

Vlog: Skin Care Routine

Hey everyone! So, here’s the video~ on my “skin care routine” that some people have been asking about. There aren’t too many steps (clean, tone, sometimes moisturize), but I just like using a variety of products, for some reason. My face isn’t so sensitive to cleansers. I just have bad luck with foundations and tinted moisturizers, I think. I’m not one for skin care. I’ve always felt like a bit of soap and water is all you needed. It goes to show you how much I know. (It has recently come to light that my sister was deeply grossed out about my lack of facial hygiene.) Anyway, onto the moving picture that is my face! (My channel was made when I was but a child. Sorry for the atrocious name!) 1. Pond’s Daily Face Wash Standard face-cleaner. I’ve been using the “light green” variety ever since late grade school (that’s Junior High to you Americans) and I just never switched to any other variant. I like it mostly because of the scent. There is a …

Fall in Love with bareMinerals READY Luminizer in The Love Affair

I’m going to be doing a bunch of quick reviews for recently-hauled items, just to get them “out of the way.” I love writing about products, obviously, and talking about what makes them great and whatnot but it’s hard to do consistently when I’m in the middle of Day Job things and when I only have one face to test the products on. So, there’s that. For today, I have a quick review on a pressed luminizer by bareMinerals. The READY Luminizer in The Love Affair is described as a “pink nectar glow.” It’s rose gold and cooler, when compared to its sister, the Luminizer in The Shining Moment, which is more yellow gold. I chose this because I wanted to be more ‘pink’ than ‘gold,’ though I don’t think I would be able to tell the difference, really. It’s not the product’s fault. I’m just not very discerning. The Luminizer comes in a bluish white plastic compact, with a full-size mirror and a beautiful stamped Art Deco inspired pattern. I don’t like the packaging …
