I don’t really post a lot of PR posts here anymore, so I guess it’s kind of telling just how excited I am for this new release from Ellis Faas. Glow Up is a new line from their complexion products—a range of highlighters set to be released on December 1, aka tomorrow. I just thought I’d give you a heads up! Highlighter is something I’ll always be drawn to, despite having numerous types in various textures, shades, and finishes.

Light is a major player in makeup transformation, emphasizing shape and glow. Glow Up incorporates the soft focus properties of reflective pearls to attract light to your face, providing radiance with a soft subtle shimmer.

Ellis Faas Glow Up is a facial powder illuminator that’s available in three shades: S501 (Porcelain Glow), S502 (Satin Glow), S503 (Deep Glow), each shade growing progressively darker in order to match a wide spectrum of skintones and their glow.

If you’re not familiar with highlighter, you apply the product to parts of the skin on which light falls first: your upper cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, the Cupid bow of your lip, and collarbone. This technique lets you play with light to create “a seductive emphasis on bone structure, and enhances your healthy and youthful appearance.”

Glow Up’s glide-on application gives a velvety feeling due to its micronisation technology. Glow Up also helps protect the skin from the environment because it contains vitamin E. No parabens. No oils. No animal testing.

Lazy Girl Makeup: The Question of Lip Liner

The enemy of the lazy girl is extra steps in her makeup routine. As a part-time lazy girl, I’ve always been lukewarm and uncertain about lip liner. I’m a relative new comer to beauty, so I never experienced needing lip liner because of lipstick feathering. Now, there are tons of great lip formulas that don’t feather on your lip lines, so lip liner has become kind of moot for other people. It is a mysterious appendage to the average makeup user, but a lot of beauty nuts find it indispensable. So, is it?

Short Answer: No.

Long Answer: No, but it’s pretty freaking useful.

I’m not a lip liner devotee. From the hundreds of makeup posts I’ve done on this blog, I think I actually have only one post on lip liner. However, it has recently come to my attention that lip liner does, in fact, serve a purpose other than de-feathering pesky lipsticks.

If you’ve got meh lips, you can slightly overdraw them with a lip liner before applying your lipsticks. The lip liner is actually pretty great at making precise lines and such, so that lipstick is applied much easier. Bold and bright lipstick, including reds, will have a much stronger visual impact when your lines are clean and precise.

My favorite use for lip liners, however, is for extending the longevity of your lip product. I was so astounded when I decided to line my lips with a nude liner before putting on a red lip. It felt like a game changer—a revelation! Adding lip liner as an extra step seems counter-intuitive for lazy behavior, but think of all the effort and time you save from not needing to reapply your lipstick every few hours.

I still don’t think that you have to get a bajillion colors of lip liner (this might be a blasphemous statement for all you lip liner lovers)—I only have a few, most of which are nudes anyway—but for this lazy girl, the answer to lip liners is a yes. Sometimes.

Lip Service from Étude House

Étude House is one of the first Korean brands I was introduced to, the other one being The Face Shop. The branding is very girly and princessy—something I don’t usually gravitate to, but I heard a lot of good things about their Play 101 Pencil range. Unfortunately, I was so overwhelmed by the sheer number of shades, I ended up with only two lip-friendly shades, both in the “glossy” finish.

They used shades 54 and 55 on the “looks” I saw by the display and I loved how both looked so much. I think these are new colors from their holiday release. 🙂 It was so hard to move around the stores because they were always so full of people, but now that I can see the colors from the Play 101 line, I kind of really want all of them. The Amaranth Ultra Hydrating Cream* is quite a light cream used for “smoothing face,” which I presume means that it gives the wearer a visibly smoother visage. “Pave your way to beautiful & healthy skin,” the pamphlet says. “It meets your needs.”

It “gives elasticity and moisture” to the skin using vegetable moisture water drops that contain Rosa Centifolia Flower Water or rose water, a common skin care ingredient, Panax Ginseng Root Extract which is one of Korea’s main crops, and Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract. These ingredients help with soothing irritated skin.

The Aramanth Ultra Hydrating Cream is the first of the AMC Special Care Series, which is a four-step process. It’s considerably shorter than a lot of the typical Korean skin care lines, with this product as the basic hydrator. This is used after cleansing and toning. Read More

Spotlight: Too Cool for School’s Dinoplatz Line

Steadily becoming one of my favorite Korean brands, Too Cool for School’s initial and long-standing hook for me was their Dinoplatz range. Designed by an American studio with commissioned illustrations from Hatori Sando, the Dinoplatz line is fun, fresh, quirky, and really, really cute.

I was a goner, basically, so please forgive me if this review runs a little long.

In 2013, I bought bath salts (?) and an illuminator from TCFS as part of my test run of the brand. I never ventured into their color cosmetics until I got samples from Too Cool for School PH (review) and until I went to several Too Cool for School branches in Korea and tried my hardest to resist. I came home with some Dinoplatz items: 3 chubby eye crayons (1 is for my sister!) and a cream glitter shadow.

Sidenote

Dinoplatz means “dino ground” or “dino space.” Their branding has “Dino,” a crossed-out “spiel,” and “platz.” Spielplatz is German for “playground.” The more you know.
