Current Nail Routine

Nail Routine - Products

I’m not a nail polish fiend, but lately I’ve been enjoying painting them. Here’s my usual routine:

— Base Coat: Sally Hansen Hard as Nails
— Chosen Nail Lacquer
— Top Coat: China Glaze No-Chip Top Coat

I’m a big fan of the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails, but I’m not too sure how I feel about the China Glaze top coat.

Nail Routine

I mentioned before that nails aren’t really my thing, and I’m terrible at nail art or even just regular application. What I’ve been doing lately is having an accent nail, usually the ring fingers.

This pretty hot pink is by Butter London, and it’s called Primrose Hill Picnic. It’s a fabulous cream and goes on opaque in one coat. The rest of the nails are painted in Barry M’s Countess, which Laala gave to me via her swap.

Butter London and Barry M are cruelty-free.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Prelude in the Clouds Aqua Primer

Rouge Bunny Rouge - Prelude in the Clouds Aqua Primer

I know, I know. I said no more primers. But I am a stupid bint. A lucky one, though, because the Rouge Bunny Rouge Prelude in the Clouds Aqua Primer is quite good. Not the best I’ve tried, but certainly not the worst. I got it at about 40% off the retail price.

Product Description: “This water-based texture is so light and refreshing on your skin that you will feel like floating through the clouds, but it contains plethora of active ingredients. Sea-Buckthorn Berry Extract serves as a superb-antioxidant and anti-ageing ingredient that promotes cell tissue regeneration. Iris Florentina Root Extract smoothes out fine lines and wrinkles to create a perfect canvas for other products to be applied to the skin. Saccharide Isomerate provides intensive hydration, firming and smoothing; Bisabolol is used for its anti-irritant and anti-inflammatory capabilities. Vitamin E Acetate and Retinol Palmitate improve skin texture. Now you know why we are so excited to bring you this miracle in a bottle.”

Rouge Bunny Rouge - Prelude in the Clouds Aqua Primer - Bottle Closeup

The bottle is actually quite pretty. It’s in a frosted white glass bottle with a shiny black cap and some floral detailing all around the sides.

Rouge Bunny Rouge - Prelude in the Clouds Aqua Primer - Pump

The pump is actually really cute, too. All the detail makes me believe in Rouge Bunny Rouge as a luxury brand. It cares about its image, and it wants you to experience it in the best way possible. Which probably explains all the flowery text, too.

Rouge Bunny Rouge - Prelude in the Clouds Aqua Primer - Swatch

The texture of the primer is actually pretty-lotion like: opaque and milky, but not runny or too thick. It’s light on the skin, and I’m actually pretty much an instant fan because of all the great ingredients it has. I have to look into it more, but the ones they’ve highlighted make me appreciate this primer as a skin care step, too.

Just for kicks, here’s the rest of the product info that highlights some of its many uses:

Apply our Aqua Primer after your usual cleansing routine—it can be used alone as a moisturiser, too. Holds foundation and other tinted complexion products onto the skin and helps prevent colour change.

For a truly natural look, mix our PRELUDE IN THE CLOUDS with our Liquid Foundation and apply. The effect is that of a light, dewy tinted moisturiser.

Apply to the eyelids and lips as a base to give even longer lasting wear. Mix with the eye shadows for an all-day, crease resistant finish and even more colour depth.

One of the Rouge Bunny Rouge marvels; you’ll soon know just why… Floating isles of melted spray cloud from the Enchanted Garden have inspired us to create this unctuously soft make-up prelude.

Use it like the rambunctiously wily Rain-Pixies, who harness it to help keep their skin looking dewy. Your face will be cushioned with an invisible layer of comfort and hydration, pores minimised and make-up lasts all day long. Wear it on its own for fresh and juicily soft skin; a downright dangerously innocent look. Worn in partnership with our foundation, the combination will bestow you with superbly smooth skin for an unequalled sophistication. You’ll wonder how you ever did without it.

Rouge Bunny Rouge is cruelty-free.

FOTD: Neutral Natural with NARS Charade

Look! An FOTD from a few days ago. 🙂 It’s just a pretty neutral look since I wanted to use a hot pink blush.

Illamasqua cream Foundation - Face 1

I basically just used the NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Charade—the rosy shade all over the lid and the purple to deepen the outer corner and smoke out the lower lid a little bit. I used a bit of the rosy shade as a gradient, too. I used a liquid liner and mascara, and that’s mostly it for the eyes.

For the lips, another NARS product, the Satin Lip Pencil in Decanso, which is limited edition and gorgeous. I kind of want to buy a backup, but I don’t want to be that kind of person anymore.

Illamasqua cream Foundation - Face 2

I chiseled out my cheekbones a little with the Illamasqua Cream Foundation, then added a pretty blended out application of Tarte’s Flush on my cheeks. I tend to apply blush higher up on and towards the edges of my face and not on the apples because my cheeks are quite full.

FOTD - Charade, Flush

Here are some of the products I used for this look, which is what actually made me re-appreciate Charade. 🙂

All mentioned products are cruelty-free.

Unboxing: Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP March 2014

Hey everyone, just a quick post for today. 🙂 Before I left for Japan, I had gotten the March box from my Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP Subscription. For those not in the know, it’s basically a monthly subscription box from Le Métier de Beauté.

The box’s set-up is an upfront payment for all 12 months. Each box costs roughly around $30, and this is the seventh box so far. If you’re curious about the subscription, here are my posts on it. Sign-ups open back up after this round is done.

Le Metier de Beaute - Beauty Vault VIP - March 2014 - Box

Boxes often come in this manner, with crinkly shredded black paper as the padding, a handwritten note, and a beautiful box tied with a black LMdB ribbon.

Le Metier de Beaute - Beauty Vault VIP - March 2014

We received two items this month, the Le Métier de Beauté Ultra Hydration Eye Mask Duo and the Le Métier de Beauté Peau Vierge Correcteur Concealer, which is a product I’ve been longing to try but can’t seem to bring myself to because of the price tag.

Le Metier de Beaute - Ultra Hydration Eye Mask Duo

The Ultra Hydration Eye Mask Duo retails for $150 for eight pads (a total of 4 pairs or $37.50 per pair).

Product Description: “Refresh under-eyes in an instant with the Ultra Hydration Eye Mask Duo from Le Métier de Beauté. Perfectly shaped, translucent treatment patches help restore the delicate under-eye area with an infusion of moisturizing actives. Featuring patented technology, the seaweed-based masks immediately cool, delivering tuned hydration to deeply quench and refresh tired skin. The perfect amount of moisture packed into one package, ideal for keeping under-eyes refreshed and revived at home or on-the-go.

Features and benefits:

  • Translucent masks seal in one-way hydration to energize and brighten eyes.
  • Seaweed-based formula immediately delivers a cool, calming sensation with key actives to soothe the delicate, under-eye area.
  • Individual sachets ideal for extended air travel, hotel stays, or boosting moisture after exercise.
  • Translucent patches deliver moisture discretely and effectively.

It has been getting really great reviews, but I don’t think that any effect will be noticeable after just one use. Still, I think it’s a nice thing to even try out. I love masks of all kinds!

Le Metier de Beaute - Peau Vierge Concealer - Medium - Pen

Next up is the Peau Vierge Correcteur Concealer which is sort of a popular product of theirs. It retails for $95 and they offer it in two shades and I got it in Medium, thank God.

Product Description: “This luxuriously creamy concealer has the power to naturally cover flaws as it corrects them. The formula is designed to work like skincare—it encourages collagen production, diminishes the appearance of dark circles, softens lines, blurs blemishes and tightens the look of pores within a week of daily use. Light-diffusing coverage creates a smooth, luminous, undetectable finish. Broad-spectrum SPF 16 protects the skin from damaging UVA/UVB rays.”

Le Metier de Beaute - Peau Vierge Concealer - Medium - Swatch

I can deal with concealer or bases that are a littler darker than those that are a little too light for me. Anyway, I am so excited to try this out because it has retinol (which has been really working well for my skin) as well as SPF Protection.

Overall a great box, I think. I don’t usually splurge on eye “care” or concealer (save for the recent purchase of the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, which I am loving to death), so this was a great way to finally go through with it.

My only concern is if I end up liking both and will feel the need to repurchase. Ah, I am a strange person, I know.

The total value of this box is $ 132.5.

Le Métier de Beauté is cruelty-free. The subscription was purchased for me by Sarie.

This or That: Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palettes

With 3-and-a-half eyeshadow palettes, Urban Decay has proven that the neutral world is actually pretty expansive. Like I mentioned in my Naked 3 review, there is a total of 40 shades in the Naked line right now (2 are repeats), so what do you do when you can’t seem to pick which palette is the best one for you?

You look for swatches online, of course!

And, happily, I am here to oblige, as promised. Luckily, I have all 4 palettes at my disposal, so let’s begin, shall we? Read More

5 Things Friday: Heroic “Extras”

5TF - Extras

Todays 5 Things Friday features some extras in my routine that actually make a big difference. I call them extras because they’re not necessary steps to my routine, though they make a ton of difference.

1. MAC Fix+
This is essentially a setting spray to lock in your makeup, but you can also spray this on before makeup application or use it to apply your eyeshadows wet. I know there are many dupes around, but this is the one I have.

2. Le Métier de Beauté Peau Vierge Lash Growth
This is a pricier version of the many lash growth serums that have become widely available, but it’s the one that’s suited to my sensitive eyes and it actually works! I can do without it, but no one in their right mind would say ‘no’ to slightly longer lashes.

3. Sara Happ Lip Scrub
Again, something easily duplicated with the right DIY recipe. I don’t use scrubs that often, but when I do, my lips—and lipstick application—always thank me.

4. Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream
I got this as a Sephora 100-pt. perk and use it before applying concealer if my under-eye area looks especially dry. Lately, I’ve been trying it out as a night treatment. It helps with fine lines and cakey concealer.

5. Le Métier de Beauté Eye Brightening and Setting Powder in Refresh
This has been a great companion when I started wearing concealer more regularly. It sets the concealer and deposits the most subtle brightening pigment that also helps me out when my concealer is a bit too dark.

What are your heroic extras?

Also, just a heads up: I’ll be queuing a few posts because I’m going to Japan today. Brace yourself for more excellent Japanese makeup! Maybe, hehe.

MAC and Bobbi Brown do not test on animals except when required by law.

Delayed Gratification, Kind Of: Urban Decay Naked 3 Eyeshadow Palette

Urban Decay Naked 3

The Urban Decay Naked 3 was one of those very hyped-up beauty releases that I knew I really wanted but didn’t end up getting for one reason or another. Instead, my sister attempted to get this for me for Christmas… and she did, but with a very long delay.

Which is fine, because I still like it and now I have it! (P.S. As of today, I haven’t bought a single lick of makeup for a month and a half. There is a threshold for new makeup and I have reached it.)

Urban Decay Naked 3 - Pans

True to the Naked tradition, the Naked 3 has twelve neutral eyeshadows, bumping the count of Naked neutrals to a total of 40. The Naked 2 has overlapping shades from both the Naked 1 (Half Baked) and the Naked Basics (Foxy). The booklet contains samples of 4 of their primer potion variants, two of which I already have.

The eyeshadows are fixed in a lightest to darkest type of arrangement, sort of.

Urban Decay Naked 3 - Pans - 1

Strange: perhaps ironically~* named because it’s your standard matte off-white, very slightly pink-toned.
Dust: a gritty, glittery pink, as annoying as actual unwanted dust. This is widely regarded as the worst shade of the Naked 3, and I can see why. I think everyone is better off using this shade as a “glitter topcoat” or under a sticky, colored base that we endeavor to look a bit rosy-hued. Anyway, I haven’t tried this much, so I have no real mad opinions about it, but it is the grittiest shade of the entire bunch.
Burnout: a pretty midtone peachy rose, like the surrounding area of a baked burnout’s eyes.
Limit: a beautiful light rosy mauve, one of the mattes in this palette. It is lighter and more pink-toned than Naked 2’s Tease, which is one of my absolute favorite shades.

Urban Decay Naked 3 - Pans - 2

Buzz: a medium mauve-y rose with a bit of silver sparkle. Very pretty.
Trick: a rosy copper that translates a bit orange-y on me.
Nooner: a matte midtone taupe-y mauve, which looks exactly like the Pantone color, “purple mauve”.
Liar: a really pretty metallic old rose.

Urban Decay Naked 3 - Pans - 3

Factory: a deep warm chocolate brown with a satin finish
Mugshot: a cool frosty medium brown
Darkside: a grey-toned brown, with a satin finish and slightly purple leanings
Blackheart: a blackened deep brown (almost black) with a suspension of red sparks. So, freaking pretty. I think this made me want this palette the most.

I’ve used this palette a handful of times since getting it, but I want to use it a bit more to facilitate my opinion-making for the Urban Decay Naked comparison post that I’m planning to post later this week. As luck would have it, I have access to all the Nakeds (1, 2, 3, and Basics). Please let me know if there is anything specific you want me to address in the post.

For the purpose of this post, though, here are two looks I’ve done using this pretty palette:

19 Eye Stuff Buzzfeed - 13
LOOK 1: Burnout on the lid, Liar in the crease.

Urban Decay - Naked 3 - Face
LOOK 2: Nooner in the crease, Liar on the lid, Factory in the outer corner and lower lash line.

Urban Decay - Naked 3 - Face - Closed Eyes

I’ll play with this some more, and maybe do a One Week Naked 3 (series of looks), like I did with the original Naked and the Naked 2. I ultimately really like the kind of variation that this palette offers. It might be my favorite one (among the Nakeds), but I’m holding off making that declaration since this is a new palette + I am probably just really excited about it.

Urban Decay Naked 3 - Brush

The palette also comes with a dual-ended brush that’s similar to the one you get with the Naked 2. Naked 3’s brush is a bit different, though, since the “blender,” fluffy side is more pinched (at the ferrule) so the shape is quite different, and the bristles are shorter. The other, flat side is less tapered than the Naked 2’s flat side with very slightly shorter bristles, but they are basically the same.

Urban Decay Naked 3 - PPs

Instead of a deluxe sample size of the Urban Decay Primer Potion, that comes with the original Naked, or a deluxe sample size of the lip gloss, that comes with the Naked 2, the Naked 3 comes with 4 samples of their different kinds of Primer Potion. I currently have the original and Sin, but the Naked 3 also comes with the anti-aging variant, as well as Eden.

The order also came with samples of their new lipstick line, Revolution, which is extremely cool:

Urban Decay Naked 3 - Samples Closed

Urban Decay Naked 3 - Samples Open

The Naked 3 palette retails for $52, which is a $2 from when I bought my other Naked palettes early last year.

Like I mentioned earlier in the post, I’m putting together a comparison post of all the Naked palettes. Please leave a comment if you have a specific question you would like me to answer about any of the palettes. I’ll do my best to address them in the upcoming post!

Thank you for reading!
