Just a Hint of Cranberry for Autumn

Here’s a subtle jewel-toned gradient—a perfect look for fall! We don’t have four seasons here in Manila, but I still seem to pattern my makeup accordingly, for some reason. I think the natural inclination towards the end of the year is to go a little bit darker and vampier, though I couldn’t tell you why! A really popular direction is to also incorporate lots of berry colors, whether it be on your eyes, cheeks, or lips.

Look - Hint of Cranberry

The focus of this look is the little peek of cranberry down at the end. I kept the rest of the face bare. Because I have no imagination.

Look - Hint of Cranberry - Eyes

STEPS:
1. Cover the entire lid with a blackened purple base. (shu uemura x Karl Lagerfeld Painting Liner in Blackish Satin Purple)
2. Pat on a cool, periwinkle blue with violet undertones on the inner two-thirds of the lid. (Art Deco 82)
3. Apply a midtone cranberry color on the outer third of the lid. (Stylenanda 3 Concept Eyes #Saturn*)
4. Blend the two colors together.
5. Add a matte ochre shade on the crease to transition the shadows and blend it out. (theBalm Sultry)
6. Line upper lashline with a black liner for definition. (Maybelline Master Liner BK-1*)

Look - Hint of Cranberry - Eye Stuff

I’ve been enjoying this 3CE Eyeshadow a ton, which is weird because I usually go for neutrals or purples. Still, I’ll take it! 🙂

Look - Hint of Cranberry 2

For the rest of my face, I just added clear mascara to groom my brows, a neutral blush for warmth (NYX Raisin), and a rosy sheer gloss (Le Métier de Beauté “Esthetique” from Bauhaus Kaleidoscope Lip Kit).

I hope you found this helpful and easy to follow. I really love the transition into the cranberry; it’s sort of like how we’re easing into fall and winter. 🙂

Yay or Nay: Makeup on a Plane?

Untitled

Thoughts on this? Up until recently, I didn’t think anything of people wearing makeup on plane rides. In fact, I was surprised that people skipped on makeup when they’re going overseas. I guess they didn’t want to sit and stew in their made-up faces? Is there any other reason why it’s not advisable to wear makeup on airplanes? Please enlighten me.

Personally, I don’t really care either way. It depends on how much time I have. I do keep some type of hydrating lip product in my bag, in case of severely cracked lips. But other than that, I carry on as usual.

Untitled

For long-haul flights, I get why people would rather go bare-faced, though. I’ve never really been fussy about makeup and removal until I started wearing a ton of it, but back when I didn’t really wear much, I didn’t really have to remove much, either. It kind of just fades throughout the day, too. LOL. Which works for me, I guess! (No, Carina. That is bad, bad, bad.)

Anyway, I find that my skin isn’t really all that fussy, or if it is, I don’t associate it with me leaving makeup on during a plane ride.

Thoughts? Do share! I would really love to know what you think and/or what you personally do. 🙂

Le Métier de Beauté Kaleidoscope Lip Kit in Bauhaus

LMdB BVVIP - August - Bauhaus lip

Here’s a more in-depth review of Bauhaus, a Kaleidoscope Lip Kit I got from the Le Métier de Beauté introductory box for August. I signed up late, so I got my first box late, but it was worth the wait.

I have two other kaleidoscopes, a trademark product of LMdB, but they are both eye kits. This is my first lip kit, and although I was expecting an eyeshadow kaleidoscope, I fell in love with this, too. I think it’s mostly because the scent is exactly like the LMdB lip crèmes, which I love. This assured me that this would be a great product.

Similar to the eye kits, the lip kits are comprised of four tiers of lipsticks. In this case, the consistency is that of a more solid lip crème, with the second shade being the most “goopy” of them all.

LMdB - Bauhaus Kaleidoscope Lip Kit - Swatches

The shades are as follows, from left to right:
— Linaire: a lustrous gold-infused rose petal
— Criterion: a gilded amber-peach
— Esthetique: a shimmering vintage rose
— Silhouette: a Cimmerian cloak of sheer amethyst
— all, layered in order!

I think it’s safe to say that all the colors are fairly sheer. Esthetique seems to be the most pigmented/opaque of them all. The performance of these are similar to the lip crèmes, which I adore, so even though I am Creepy Eyeshadow Lady, I still really loved this to bits.

LMdB - Bauhaus Kaleidoscope Lip Kit - Swatches - Angle

Here are the colors, at an angle. You can see that the shades are really more of a gloss than a lipstick. These are so easy to apply (I use a standard lip brush, or clean fingers if I am lazy), and they go well on top of each other—again, like the lip crèmes. Because of the shimmer content, they add a very nice dimension to the lips, too, whether you wear them alone or over another lip product.

Here are the colors in action:

SS N8 - Face
Wearing Linaire.

LMdB - Bauhaus - Criterion - Face
Wearing Criterion.

LMdB - Bauhaus - Esthetique - Face
Wearing Esthetique.

LMdB - Kaleidoscope Lip Kit - Silhouette - Bauhaus - Face
Wearing Silhouette.

There are very subtle variations regarding the colors. I personally believe they work better over another color, as a sort of pretty cloak over something more opaque. On bare lips, you can hardly tell the difference unless you are a really observant person. Though the shimmer content and variation are more obvious in real life, I think that it’s not enough to justify the price of this lip kit.

While I love the colors and the quality, I don’t love the price tag that comes with it. Priced the same as the eye kits, at $95, I feel like it’s disproportionate because you go through lip products so much faster than eyeshadow. Maybe that’s faulty reasoning, but as much as I love this, I wouldn’t pay full price for a lip kaleidoscope when I could get an eye kaleidoscope or a shit ton of books. Just because of the mileage.

For comparison, an LMdB Lip Crème, priced at $36, has 0.22 fl.oz. of product, whereas the LMdB Kaleidoscope Lip Kit is priced at $95 for just 0.34 fl.oz. of product. That’s not even double the lip crème amount, but the price of the lip kit is well over 100% more.

I’ll play with this some more and see if there is something significantly life-altering in this lip kit that would make me tell you to “GO BUY IT, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.” As for now, it’s a really, really lovely thing to have. If you don’t have to pay $95 for it. However, if this interests you, Bauhaus is still available online at Neiman Marcus.

BRTC Jasmine Whipping Essence*

BRTC - Jasmine Whipping Essence

Today’s bnt girls review comes in the form of the BRTC Jasmine Whipping Essence, which is the second step of the Jasmine Moist System. I only have this to try out for you, and based on the information sheet it comes with, it goes on before your makeup.

The Jasmine Water System is perfect for “soft, bright skin” and you must use it if:
— your skin is so dry that it can’t hold makeup on for long
— your skin looks rough and bumpy
— your skin looks dull and lifeless
— you want to add a nice dewy glow to your skin

It’s meant for dry, rough skin and features, obviously, the jasmine flower for aromatherapeutic purposes. “Blue Phyto Complex is added to hydrate skin and relieve itchiness from dry weather and internal/external stress, promoting a soft, supple complexion.” Phew!

BRTC - Jasmine Whipping Essence - Dual Layer

The Jasmine 3D Whipping Essence is a dual-layered whipped serum for soft skin. The literature it comes with says that it serves to add a nice dewy glow to your skin for a healthy look. The natural oils and emulsifiers also create a protective barrier and increase the skin’s moisture-retaining ability for long-lasting comfort and softness.

I know that’s a lot to take in, but this is more of a skin care product than anything, and I want to make sure I evaluate it properly. 🙂 I have figured out that I have dry skin, but it’s not super fussy. I’m also lucky that I live in a country with a pretty high humidity, so I don’t really get dry-skin problems on my face a lot. I do need moisture, though, and usually a serum does it for me already that I don’t need to top it off with moisturizer.

Before conducting this test, I used my favorite serum, Aesop’s Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Serum, but I stopped that completely so I can test this out well. This is also why this is the last of my bntgirls stash that I am reviewing. 🙂 I’ve been using this since the 5th, so I figured that was adequate time for me to determine whether or not this was a yay or a nay for me.

Right off the bat, there is a strong floral scent that I don’t appreciate since I regard this as a skin care product… Must be the jasmine? It wears away however, so that’s alright with me. The serum itself is liquid-y, like watered down milk, which is what I would describe the color as well. The purple gradient is just the color of the packaging. 🙂

The product itself is very mild and gentle, and it seeps into the skin really flawlessly. It’s great for some light moisture, especially under makeup. The texture of my skin is noticeably smoother, though I don’t think it did very well in terms of eliminating the spots I had. I didn’t get any more spots or blemishes, but I didn’t see much improvement in that area either.

Here, I’ve worn it under the Graymelin CC Base Cream. I think there’s some glowiness, but there is definitely no oily shine:

Jasmine Whipping Essence

It’s a really good moisturizer for the day, but I find it too light for a night treatment. After this test, I’ve decided to go back to using my Aesop serum at night, and just wearing this one under my makeup when I need more moisture. 🙂

You can purchase this online through Sasa.

Testing the Waters with Urban Decay Ocho Loco 2

Hello, everyone! I’ve been testing out the Urban Decay Ocho Loco 2 eyeliner set for about four days now, and I just wanted to share my thoughts. 🙂 This isn’t a full review by any means, but for the most part, I am enjoying this set a lot. That’s saying something, because I am not a big liner girl, since I usually play with my eyeshadow instead.

UD - Ocho Loco 2 - Case

Anyway, the Urban Decay Ocho Loco 2 is one of their holiday sets for 2013. You get EIGHT 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils, four of which are limited edition shades. Add to that a Grindhouse sharpener, which is celebrated in its own right. I haven’t sharpened anything with that yet, so thoughts on that are on hold.

UD - Ocho Loco 2 - Grindhouse

But it’s a really pretty color, and I love that it has a pick thing that sort of deals with the eyeliner/product gunk build-up by near the blades.

UD - Ocho Loco 2 - Swatches

Here are the initial swatches, from L-R: Roach, Twice Baked, Crave, Perversion, Mars, Deep End, Ultraviolet, and Tornado. These glide on so well and they pretty much stay put. I rubbed my finger over the colors, and there was very minimal transfer, mostly just the shimmer particles.

I didn’t think that these swatches really showed you the shade differences and range of the liners, so I took some more swatches that are more representative of what they really look like, i.e. supah gorgeous!

Ocho Loco 2 Swatches

Beautiful! 🙂 Roach is a coppery color with a bit of shimmer. I’m a bit sad and icked out that it does sort of resemble a cockroach, even though that’s probably not what they meant by ‘roach.’ LOL. It also does sort of look like the burnt part of a roach, but I’m guessing people will associate it more with the bug. ANYWAY. It’s beautiful. I’ll try not to think of cockroaches when I put it on.

Twice Baked is a deeper, cooler brown with shimmer. Crave is a blackened brown that looks close to black. It’s deeper than most dark brown eyeliners that I’ve encountered. I think people would mistake it for a black. 🙂 Perversion needs no introduction! It’s a full-on matte black. Mars is a teal-ish blue green color.

Deep End is a turquoise/aqua shade. Ultraviolet is a blue violet shimmery shade that is so pretty but is also the patchiest and least opaque of them all. Tornado is predictably my kinda color. It’s a blackened purple that is also somewhat bright. I think this is a shadow from one of the Oz palettes that they turned into a liner.

I tried some of these on once I got them. Sorry in advance for the shiny face and obnoxious pores, lol. Tornado on the upper lashline:

Ultraviolet and Mars on each of the lower lashlines:

Crave on upper lashline and Deep End on the lower waterline:

Also, I got bangs and a haircut! 🙂 They look yucky in the last photo because I had just rolled out of bed.

Some general thoughts: I think that $20 for a liner is absurd, even though Perversion is so good that you can say ‘bye’ to all your other black pencil liners now. I talked myself into getting this set because it’s such a great value, overall. There are 8 liners—all of which I actually like—and a sharpener for slim and thick pencils. And it retails for just about a dollar under the price of three pencils—$59. I mean, seriously.

Also, these liners are so good that if there is a particular color you don’t like, it’s totally acceptable to gift it to a friend. S/he will probably glomp (jump/tackle/hug) you, even. They’re ah-mah-zing, so get them when you can!
