Inspired by Literature x 20th Century Book Tag

Taking a page out of Jessica of Getting Cheeky’s book (get it?), I decided to try and translate literature into makeup colors. I won’t be doing anything like Made-Up History, which is a series I made up where I take a work of art and translate it to a makeup look, just a selection of colors I think that make up pieces of literature. Click here for her Inspired by Literature series. For this first post (of many? Possibly), I picked books that I spoke about on my 20th Century Book Tag Video, which you can watch here: Without further ado, here are the photos! 1900s — What Maisie Knew by Henry James NARS Eyeshadow Trio in Delphes, NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Montego Bay I chose quite soft colors for this particular book cover. I haven’t actually read this yet, but I know that it has a lot to do with innocence. 1910s — Dubliners by James Joyce NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Paramaribo, Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait in Orgueil Quite a depressing, though realistic …

Liquid Foundation Swatch Fest

After I posted about the Ahava Liquid Foundation, fairytalesandcoffee asked me to do a swatch comparison with my other liquid foundations. I said OK because it’s fairly different from the other liquid foundations I have. Here are four types of foundation I own, since I have the L’Oreal Lucent Magique Liquid Foundation* in two shades, and strictly that. I didn’t include BB creams or tinted moisturizers, etc. From left to right, they are Ahava Light Foundation in Sand, Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow in Cheers to me Champagne, L’Oreal Lucent Magique Foundation in G4 (I also have N5), and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, which is technically a “gel” foundation, but I found the consistency to be similar to my other liquid foundations. Here are unblended swatches in the same order: I hope it’s evident that the Ahava foundation is thicker and creamier, whereas all the others are quite runny. Also, this goes to show you how sucky I am at shade-matching. (Although, I feel like I pick the correct shades. Agree?) Here are the swatches …

Makeup No-Buy Update: Three Month Mark

Welcome to the third month of Makeup No-Buy, and it’s time to report my progress, so far! Many people have been asking if I’m still on it, and the short answer is ‘yes.’ The long answer is ‘yes, but I have purchased makeup here and there.’ This month, I got myself two Bourjois products from my Vietnam visit. We don’t have that brand in Manila, which I guess explains why I felt like I should grab them… Hehe. So, a recap of purchases! MAY/MONTH ONE: — e.l.f. Liquid Eyeliner — essence Stay All Day Eyeshadow * used Department Store points JUNE/MONTH TWO: — 3 x Addiction Ready-to-Wear Palettes — 3 x Addiction Cheek Sticks — 3 x Addiction Single Eyeshadows * Den’s Japan trip; can’t get these products in Manila JULY/MONTH THREE: — Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum — Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer * Vietnam trip; can’t get these products in Manila Despite the obvious failure on my part to completely eradicate makeup purchases for six months, I think I’m doing pretty well. Especially when it …

Favorite Things: NARS Eyeshadow Duos

Here’s the thing about NARS Duos—you think you know better, but the colors really do go together. I found that to be true especially with Paramaribo and Grand Palais. I have four NARS duos, but I have my eye on a few more. Here’s a collective post of mine so you can see how awesome they are and maybe try one or two out for yourself. All of them swatched together! Oooooh~ Habanera is one of the first duos I bought, highly influenced by Kim of Gunk Fury, who sadly does not seem to update anymore. She used it for a smokey eye, tutorial here. Habanera is very pretty and soft with a “mint frost” and a “sparkling charcoal plum,” but it does not get that much love from me, because I bought it at a time when I was scared of über shimmer and just bought stuff because I was impressionable. I am not scared of glitter anymore, so let’s remedy this lack of Habanera love. Paramaribo is another duo I got when I …

Unboxing: BDJ Box July 2013*

Imagine my surprise when I got home to another BDJ Box for the month of July! When the team originally emailed me, I was supposed to get a certain number of boxes to try and I thought my BDJ time was up last month, but I counted wrong… HEH. So, I was so happy to get this month’s because I was eyeing that too cool for school BB Cream! This month’s box is freaking awesome, by the way. I’m so happy I was sent one. Thank you to the BDJ Box team. 🙂 And for my next trick—pictures!
