I <3 Drugstore Makeup Tag

I saw this tag over at Cosmetic Caitlin and thought it would be pretty fun! I don’t own a lot of drugstore makeup, because I tend to give them away to people when I don’t like them or they don’t work for me. I think it’s also because I decided to go cruelty-free and didn’t really get a chance to try a lot of drugstore makeup. (Most of the brands here are not CF.) Feel free to answer the questions in the comments or link me to your blog where you do the tag. 🙂 1. What is your favorite drugstore makeup brand overall? Counting non-CF brands, I’ve got to say Revlon. My favorite cruelty-free drugstore brand is Snoe Beauty, and Wet n Wild. 2. What are your favorite face, cheek and lip products? — Face: L’Oreal Lucent Magique Liquid Foundation in G4 or N5, Physician’s Formula Youthful Wear Cosmeceutical Youth-Boosting Powder in Matte Translucent — Cheek: Revlon ColorBurst Mineral Blush in Roseberry — Lip: Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Plum, Maybelline Color Whisper in …

Shiro Cosmetics Pre-Ban Haulage & Semi-Reviews

I was telling fairytalesandcoffee about the unfortunate way my shopping seems to creep up on me. Not long after I banned myself from buying any more makeup, it started raining makeup because all of the other items I ordered prior to shunning (new) makeup purchases from my life started arriving. This haul from Shiro Cosmetics, which I luuuuv. Anyway, this is what I ended up getting. Read what I got during my first order here. They come in three sizes, full-sized pots, mini pots, and sample baggies. The full-sized ones come with stickers at the top. I bought 4 (I forgot to photograph 1), they’re lined up on the first column: It’s Gonna Be MAY! (LOL), Nestyr, and TARDIS (!). The mini pot I got is a pink shadow called Wildflowers, and it was from the Hunger Games Collection. The four little clam pots are lip products called Intertubes, L-R: Why Not Zoidberg?, Nyan Cat, Team Buffy, and Sad Keanu. I got four sample baggies, too. It’s Gonna Be MAY! and Nestyr look a lot …

MAC Starter Kit (Colors & Tools) by Laura

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you’ll know that I hauled a major haul from MAC a few months ago, with the help of my friend from Canada-land, Laura. One of the reasons why it took me this long to accumulate MAC items is because I would get so overwhelmed at the counters. Another reason is because the MAC salespeople are tres unfriendly. Heh, just kidding. Kind of. Anyway! Kind, beautiful Laura suggested some colors for me to try. I asked her if it would be okay to post her suggestions on here and she said it was OK. I’ll mark the stuff I ended up getting with an asterisk (*). Double asterisks (**) means my sister got them. 🙂 Here we go! Eyeshadow: “You seem to really like neutral colours, so I would highly recommend you check out: Satin Taupe*, Twinks, Shale, Cork*, Blackberry, and Woodwinked for some deeper neutrals. For lighter neutrals I recommend checking out Bamboo, Yogurt, Malt*, and Blanc Type. Blanc Type is especially creamy (it’s a …

Softly Sometimes & the Holy Grail: My HG Products

Liz of Project Vanity posted her Holy Grail products yesterday and I thought I’d do the same! If you didn’t already know, Holy Grail or HG products are essentially a person’s “Best of the Best.” You may loooooove eleventy billion products, but you probably have a favorite favorite, if you know what I mean. Here are my own! I’ll follow her format and add a couple of my own. 🙂 For reference, I think I am a warmer neutral, around light-medium. I’ve never been shade matched at anywhere, but I’ve inputted (weird word) my foundation shades on Findation, and here are supposedly my shades all across the board. It says that I am an NC37, an NW30, and an NC40. So you can imagine my confusion. I am not very oily, but I do oil up occasionally, and I do have a lot of dry flakes. So I don’t know what skin type that is. Very helpful, aren’t I? Also, I live in a very humid area. Anyway, let’s get started!

4 Product Face

Here’s a very quick and basic day look that you can throw on easily, and with only 4 products! It’s very light and ideal for when you wake up late, or if you don’t necessarily want to bring a whole lot of products along with you on a holiday. Here’s what I used to achieve this look: PRODUCTS: — NARS Tinted Moisturizer (Alaska) — The Body Shop Brow & Liner Kit (02) — BECCA Beach Tint (Guava) — Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (Luminous Light) TOOLS: — Marionnaud N°38 Eyes (Slanted + Spoolie) — Hakuhodo H601 brush — shu uemura eyelash curler If you’re keen to know how I did it, watch this video: The only thing I would do differently for this look was to maybe pat a little bit more of the brown shades on my eye to kind of intensify the color, and maybe add a bit of the darker brown to the outer ‘v’ for depth. Other than that, I think this is a pretty good look! It looks grossly simple and …

Covet: MAKE Cosmetics

A few weeks (months?) ago, I posted a list of beauty things that I’d been eyeing over at & Other Stories, a brand that I can’t get here in Manila. Here is another brand that is sadly out of reach: MAKE. MAKE is: “a cosmetic brand that finds beauty in inspiration. Its mission is to encourage self-expression through color by fostering contemporary collaborations between makeup artists and creatives worldwide. MAKE is the first for-benefit beauty brand on We See Beauty and is Made in New York.” You can read more about MAKE here. So, I looked through their shop (which, by the way, has very interesting moving campaigns and pictures, when you scroll all the way down) and these are my picks: Matte Eyeshadow in Purple Sage ($18) • Matte Eyeshadow in Poppy ($18) Satin Eyeshadow in Great Lakes ($18) • Satin Eyeshadow in Santa Fe ($18) Satin Eyeshadow in Yellow Brick Road ($18) • Custom Effects Pigment in Reykjavik ($18) Molten Eyeshadow in Metallic Bronze ($18) • Gel Eyeliner Pencil in Very Brown ($14) …

Softly Special: My Top Five Favorite Eye Palettes

I know I did Lipstick Week not too long ago, but the truthiest truth out there is that I’m an eyeshadow lady. I fricken love the stuff. I think that’s really where it all went downhill. I can remember the first eye product I purchased that changed everything and how I looked at eye makeup (i.e. bareMinerals’ READY 2.0 in The Scenic Route). And then I was doomed to a life of swatching. I don’t know if I want to make a whole week’s worth of celebration out of this, because eye swatches are much, much harder to do than lipstick swatches, but I’ll begin by outing my favorite eye palettes for all of you. What I basically look for in eyeshadow palettes is versatility, which I feel like entails a good variety of tone, texture, and shade. With that little checklist in mind, I looked at my palette collection and picked out a few favorites. Here goes nothing! Honorable Mention: Guerlain Ecrin 4 Couleurs in Turandot (Review) This was the first high-end palette I …
