Drugstore Finds: Flower Beauty Kiss Stick High Shine Lipstick in Ginger Lily

I’ve been eyeing the Flower Beauty line ever since it came out, but I obviously can’t get any of that over here, unless I go through a reseller. In a fit of “need to buy something,” I bought some things—just 3—from the Flower Beauty range, and here are my thoughts on this “Kiss Stick High Shine Lipstick.” If you are in Manila, in search of Flower Beauty, look no further than Bon Marche. I tend to shy away from warm colors—especially for lip products—because they pronounce my “yellow-ness” and I don’t like looking too warm. Don’t get me wrong; I like being tan, just not warm. Ginger Lily isn’t so bad, though I bought this on the off-chance that it would be a dupe for MAC’s Betty Bright (it isn’t), and I honestly kinda like it despite that obvious mismatch that I should have caught anyway. Drugstore Finds: NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils

The NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk was made popular a few years ago by YouTube beauty gurus, and I can see why. It’s a chubby pencil that dispenses a rich, white opaque coating in one swipe. Fans of colored eyeshadows that really pop, rejoice! I have a few others in Lavender, Oyster, and Pacific, and while all of them are inferior to Milk in the department of Making Eyeshadows Pop, they’re great for other things. I swatched three eyeshadows over each of the Jumbo Eye Pencil Swatches to observe their performance as a base: On top, I have Addiction’s Sandbar, and to me, it’s a bit too light to arrive at any sort of conclusion. The next row is made by a rust-colored shadow, and you can see the pink tones come out more when it’s over Oyster. The last row is a swipe of a cool blue shadow, 203 by Art Deco, and you can also see the nuance of the change shade the most over Oyster once again. I love Milk, especially …

Drugstore Finds: Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohls

Today’s review is on a product that I am a little bit scared to talk about because it has reached an insane level of cult stardom. Or something. The Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohls are often touted as a drugstore alternative to many high-end creamy eyeliners because of its rich and creamy texture, as well as impressive pigmentation, and staying power. These do not budge, apparently. And—apparently—I had to try them out. Color me surprised when the first time I used the black liner. I used it to tightline my upper waterline (which, by the way, applies impressively. I have a very sensitive upper waterline) and it was so creamy and smooth, and I loved it. Then it traveled to my bags. And stayed put. I tried it again on a different day, this time on my lower lashline and in between my upper lashes. This is pictured above. Drugstore Finds: Flower Beauty Color Play Crème Shadows in Orchid-ing Around and Vine of the Times

I’ve been eyeing the Flower Beauty line (yes, Drew Barrymore’s makeup collection!) for the longest time, but I finally decided to bite the bullet a couple of weeks ago when I saw some lipstick swatches that looked remarkably like MAC’s Betty Bright. That turned out to be a dud dupe, but a great lipstick by itself. The Color Play Crème Shadows were always high up on my list of things to try, so I bought two of them as well: Orchid-ing Around, a blackened orchid shade, and Vine of the Times, a pretty light green. Both have shimmer in them, though the green looks like a cream. Swatches, L-R: Orchid-ing Around and Vine of the Times First up is Orchid-ing Around. Although it probably looks scarier, it’s actually the “safer choice,” since it’s close to being a black. As mentioned, it is a blackened orchid with quite a bit of glitter/shimmer, though it’s not anything chunky. I thought this would be an interesting base color to layer some lighter shades on top of. Drugstore Finds: Maybelline EyeStudio LuminEyes in Khaki and Grey*

Here’s a quick review of the Maybelline EyeStudio LuminEyes Palettes* which I got in a BDJ Box a few months ago. I got the shade Grey, but my cousin who is not a wearer of eyeshadow gave me hers, which was in Khaki and which I like a lot better. I don’t really get on with silvers and greys all that well (it depends), so I was apprehensive of this palette. It’s a five-pan palette with four shades of one color (in this case, Grey and Khaki) and a small circular pan with a white “primer.” The primer is sparkly, and you can see on the above swatch that it doesn’t really do much to enhance the eyeshadow colors. In fact, it was quite hard to apply with a brush so I tried to apply it with my fingers, which was slightly better but also ultimately a chunky experience. I look like a harlot. As I, and many people have suspected, the “primer” in the round pan didn’t really act like a primer so much …

Drugstore Finds: Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Peachy Scene*

Here’s a quick look at the Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Peachy Scene* which I got from a BDJ Box a few months ago. The bullet will tell you how much I don’t use it. The color is actually really pretty, it’s just that the scent is quite overwhelming and the frost finish doesn’t help this lipstick’s case. Here are a couple of swatches. Peachy Scene is in between YSL Rouge Volupté Shine in Rose in Tension and MAC’s Betty Bright, from the Archie’s Girls collection. Rose in Tension is much darker and obviously rosier, whereas Betty Bright is a little lighter, pinker, and a ton brighter. I can’t say I’ll miss this from my collection, honestly. Because as lovely as the color is, I can’t get past the smell. It smells like vanilla frosting, which sounds amazing, I know, but I don’t like makeup that smells like baked goods. It doesn’t smell like your typical vanilla smell from MAC. Like, it smells like the baked good you’d use the vanilla for. LOL. Does that make …

Drugstore Finds: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum & Correcting Concealer

The Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation and the Bourjois Healthy Mix Correcting Concealer are two of my favorite face products at the moment. I was starting to swear off liquid foundations as the weather was just getting too hot and humid, but I couldn’t resist the Bourjois counter in Vietnam. It’s a little bit more pricey than retail in the UK, but it’s worth the little extra, because these are just so good! I got both in shade 53, which is 53 Light Beige for the foundation and 53 Dark Radiance for the concealer. I don’t like going lighter on foundations, so I didn’t want to risk it and got one of the darker shades available there. The consistency of the serum foundation is very smooth, though it’s not runny. It’s a gel, to be more specific. The concealer takes a bit of work. I like to warm it up between my fingers. I use it both on my under eye darkness and some blemishes, and it works great for both.
