Back from Japan: Some Photos + My Beauty Loot

Hello everyone, I’m back from my trip! It was, truthfully, too short a trip and I wish I could have stayed longer because Japan is a beautiful country. 🙂 We visited two cities—Osaka and Kyoto—which are about thirty minutes and ¥430 (or about $5) away from each other. This is Doutonbori Street (the English spelling varies), which is filled with food and large recreations of food that hang outside shop windows. On the left part of this picture, you can kind of see a row of gyoza (dumplings), and a large puffer fish that looks like a blimp. This is especially fun to walk around in at night because it’s so busy and alive. Also, Japanese food is one of the tastiest cuisines in the world! This is a nice one, in Kyoto, because the branches were low, so you can be surrounded by beautiful little blossoms. 🙂 This is …

Quickie: Chanel Joues Contraste in Frivole

I can wax poetic about this beautiful peach apricot blush by Chanel, but I won’t. I’ll spare ya. What I will tell you, though, is that infuses a beautiful glow on your face. Prepare for a smattering of warmth, when you put it on. It’s a subtle kind of warmth; the kind that seems like it’s spreading across your cheeks from that special place in your heart. The Chanel Joues Contraste in Frivole ($43) is the kind of thing that I knew I wanted to have the minute I saw it in Spring 2013 promo pictures. It’s just a beautiful orange blush that looks mega-bright on the pan but is actually a) subtle on the cheeks/skin, and b) fairly buildable. Frivole comes with a full-size compact mirror and a slightly stiff and rough brush, as well as a little velvet pouch to keep it scratch-free when you throw place it gently into your bag. When you open it, the air begins to smell strongly like “roses” but it really reminds me of what a lola …

Faces of the Week: February 4-10, 2013

A catalog of looks for the past week. For my own reference, but I hope it may be of some use to someone out there. I decided to do this this week because it’s a rarity that I find myself out of the house—all 7 days of the week at that. I think it would be tons more interesting to see seven looks than a measly three or four. 🙂 MONDAY Meant to do some errands, which were thwarted because school offices were closed for President’s Day. January Favorites

I’ve been in quite the beauty rut lately, despite the seemingly endless supply of new makeup products in the mail. New makeup products that I bought with my money… so it’s definitely not an endless supply. It just seems like it is because they’re coming all at once! Since I was in a beauty rut, this is going to be a short list this month, I think. I also did not go out all that much in January (hermit alert), so I’m really at some sort of loss, I suppose. Nevertheless, here are my January Favorites! There are some great products that I was able to try and use late into the month. 1. Le Métier de Beauté Sheer Brilliance Lip Gloss in Bondi Beach (Review — $32; Nordstrom) I would say that the biggest “beauty rut” I was in last month concerned lip products! I didn’t know what to use. I got so tired of “dark, berry lips,” and it never felt quite right. I would finish a look and then add a lip …

Quickie: Chanel Spring 2013 Acquisitions

Here’s a short post on some recent acquisitions from the Chanel Precieux Printemps Collection for 2013. Precieux Printemps translates to “precious spring” and the girliness of the whole collection seems to embody that. I didn’t expect to get anything from the collection, just because it seemed pretty basic and dainty. Alas. I ended up picking up 4 items from the collection. I initially just intended on picking up the blush, because I didn’t have a coral/peach blush in my collection yet. And then, Duty Free happened. I asked Sarie to pick up one lip color from the collection (Envoutante), and then I ended up asking her to get me the two others (Captivante & La Favorite) I’d been eyeing as well. In order of want: Chanel Rouge Allure in Envoutante, aka the shade I was sure I wanted. This is one of my first Rouge Allure shades. It’s a deep plummy shade with some shimmer and some slick to it. I’m not sure I like this formula over the other Chanel ones I’ve tried (Rouge …

I spy Spring 2013: Chanel

Chanel was the first high-end cosmetics brand that I ever tried, starting with a tube of Rouge Coco in Perlé. It was the first lipstick I ever tried that smelled really nice, went on smoothly, and had a shade that was subtle but still really pretty. From that first shade, I went on to buy two shades from the Rouge Coco Shine line (Boy and Antigone) and one from the Rouge Allure Velvet line (La Distinguée). I love all of them, and I don’t really feel all that bad spending on Chanel lipsticks because I know that I will get the quality that I expect. With all of that said, I missed out on their Holiday 2012 collection. I was eyeing the Harmonie du Soir quad, but I had already gotten myself a pretty similar, though not exactly the same, quad—Guerlain’s Turandot. The upcoming Spring 2013 collection and Les Delices 2013 one have got my heart all a-flutter, however, so I’m sharing the pictures I found with you. Spring 2013: Chanel Precieux Printemps Collection

FOTD: NARS Ramatuelle & Chanel Boy (Rouge Coco Shine)

My “gateway drug” into make-up was a single, harmless stick of Chanel’s Rouge Coco in Perlé (02). Now, I have four Chanel lipsticks, but only because I have been successful at resisting. If I had it my way, I’d buy the whole lot! But that’s another story for another time. Today, the spotlight is on my last Chanel acquisition, from the Rouge Coco Shine line, Boy. I eyed it at the Duty Free counter on the way back from Hong Kong, but I left with what would be my first Rouge Coco Shine shade, Antigone (a pinkish red shade). At the time, I thought Boy swatched a little bit too pink for me, and I didn’t know if I could wear it out so much. I’ve been thinking about this shade for quite a while, and the next time I found myself at a Chanel counter, I grabbed Boy immediately and I’m quite glad I did. As it turns out, Rouge Coco Shine applies somewhat sheer. I myself don’t really like a lot of coverage, …
