Beauty Inspo: One Direction

Yup, you read that right. My One Direction obsession has leaked into my heart makeup life. Well, as far as the two gifs in this post are concerned anyway. Look 1 Let’s start with the obvious beaut, ex-member Zayn Malik: (source) I mean, I had a really hard time trying to think of an eyeshadow that would match how gloriously slick and shiny (um, lol) the stuff on his eyelids is. And even then, I failed. See, most of the ones I had in mind that could possibly pass as a “dupe” in terms of shade are a little on the frosty side. Anyway, I think this is actually something like vaseline or a lip gloss, to be honest. I ended up reaching for Shiro Cosmetics’ Baker’s Boy (from the Hunger Games collection) patted on a clear primer + eyeliner: concealer: Ellis Faas (S204)*, powder: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (Ethereal Light), eyeliner: K-Palette liquid liner (black)* and Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (Crave), blush: Kjaer Weis (Abundance), lipstick: MAKE Matte Lipstick (Jakarta) A true …

A Convergence of Purples

Once upon a time, I convinced myself that I would never look good in purple lipstick, and that I would never, ever want to wear it, ever. Somehow, I got it into my head that all purple lips did to people was make them look witchy. Well. Times have changed. Here are various types of purples, some leaning more pink or red or blue than others, but all are—to me—purple, as far as colors go. (Don’t mind Sad Keanu in that clam shell… it looks gross, but it’s fine.)

Sample Stash Sunday: Decanting my Shiro Samples

If you’ve purchased from Shiro Cosmetics before, you’d know that they send candy and sometimes, sample baggies out with your order. I’ve had these for a while, but have never gotten around to transferring them into little pots until recently. I thought it would be a messy affair, but it was quite easy and fuss-free. I’d write up a tutorial, but you just literally pour out the contents into a small container (like this mini pot or an old contact lens case) and that’s that. For easier cleanup, do this with a paper towel over your desk. Shiro also seals each baggie with a circular sticker of the eyeshadow name, with ingredients and an indication of whether or not the shade is lip-safe. A+! I don’t have a lot of containers, so I’ve only decanted three eyeshadows so far. From L-R, we have Everything is Bears, which was a Color of the Month, Victory Road, and Badger. I bought all the shades except Victory Road. Everything is Bears is a “Rich, dark brown packed with …

Quickie: Shiro Cosmetics Intertubes

Just a short break from the eye bonanza happening on this blog currently. 🙂 Although, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has gone out of their way to let me know what they thought of it and whether or not a post was helpful for them. If you have any requests for posts, please leave a comment and I’ll see what I can do for you. 🙂 Intertubes are lip thingies from Shiro Cosmetics, aka the place to be for funny geeky people who like makeup, too. I ordered some sample colors during my last weak moment and got for shades: Nyan Cat, Why Not Zoidberg?, Team Buffy, and Sad Keanu. LOL, I mean, really. How did you think I could resist these? Anyway, I’m happy I purchased these small samples as a test run because I’m not really sure about them. I’ve had them for a while, but I don’t know, they just don’t want to seem to work well on me? Here are some photos of me wearing each color: …

Stash Shopping No. 3

Hey everyone! Here’s another edition of Stash Shopping, which is when I look over my current collection and commit to use some selected items for an entire week. I’m on my third week, and it’s been fun. I actually asked the last time if you wanted to see some looks I wore using the selected items and received a mostly favorable response, so before I get into this week’s “haulage,” let me share some looks I made the past week, mostly using the bareMinerals READY 8.0 Eyeshadow Palette in The Cocktail Hour (reviewed here): Just a disclaimer, I work as a freelance writer and graphic designer, so I don’t wear makeup everyday. 🙂 For this first look, I used the coral (Spiked), the taupe-y color (Invite Only), and the purple (Swanky), in that order from the inner corner all the way across the lid. I wore this to a meeting and some errands. I used the Revlon Mineral Blush (Roseberry), and the Maybelline Lipstick (Chestnut) that was also in the box, but I topped it …

Stash Shopping No. 2

A second week shopping my stash! This is done in an attempt to survey my current makeup babies, instead of looking for more things to buy. Shall we begin? These are the new color cosmetics I decided to focus on this week. I still have a few items in my S.S. box from my Project 10 Pan that I included in last week’s “haul,” like Benefit’s Lemon Aid and the lip products. The new additions: Clockwise from top left: Revlon ColorStay Mineral Blush in Roseberry, bareMinerals Eye Color in Hyacinth, Shiro Cosmetics eyeshadow in Rebellion, MAC Paint Pot in Rubenesque, bareMinerals READY 8.0 in The Cocktail Hour, MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy, BECCA Beach Tint in Guava, and Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie I wanted to use a bit more color, as well as try my hand at a pretty navy eye this week. This is my face using some of the products here! I was in a hurry to step out, so I swiped random quick products. I didn’t even use bases …

Mineral Madness Day 5: When the Thrush Knocks, It’s Gonna Be MAY!

I know I missed several days for this challenge, but work and life have both been very busy. I have a few posts lined up, but no pictures, really, for some of them. I’ve especially slacked off on these mineral makeup looks, so sorry about that! I wore this one a few days ago, though. I used When the Thrush Knocks and It’s Gonna Be MAY! by Shiro Cosmetics. I know you can’t see it very well so I’ll update this post when I get a better picture of it, because it’s rather pretty 🙂 UPDATE: I recreated the look and took pictures to give you a better idea of what the look was. In this version, I packed on more of When the Thrush Knocks and lined my eyes with MAC’s Prunella instead of Teddy. I think it looks similar to Mineral Madness Day 2’s look. Which I am not totally a fan of. Next time, I won’t pack on so much of the goldy color, I think. 🙂 In case you were interested, …
