Drugstore Finds: Maybelline’s The Falsies Volum’Express Waterproof Mascara

I’d been jonesing for good black mascara for quite some time now. Mariko suggested the Guerlain mascara, but since I am trying to cut back on beauty purchases, I thought it would be prudent to look for a good enough drugstore brand (for now). I first heard about Maybelline’s Volum’Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara (phew!) from a video by Ingrid Nilsen, or Miss Glamorazzi. She mentions “The Falsies Flared” mascara in her I ♥ Drugstore Makeup video, but I do believe we only have this variation so I went ahead and got it. The wand is pretty dense and is curved (like a spoon!), I suppose to mimic the eye shape. As you can probably tell, this mascara is after volume. Let’s see how well it fares in that department? No mascara. After 1 layer of The Falsies on curled lashes. After 2 layers of The Falsies on curled lashes. After 3 layers of The Falsies on curled lashes. I wouldn’t consider these results to be akin to applying false lashes… though they do add …

Drugstore Finds: e.l.f. Eye Colors & Falsies

Because Sarie was trying to spend all of the store credit from her Crossings gift certificates, she gave the rest to me after buying a bowl-type of contraption. There were e.l.f. products there so I picked my poison and got a) a pair of falsies (my first!), b) two cream shadow duos, and c) another one of the quad things, like the one I mentioned in my Makeup Starter Kit post. Natural Lash Kit. In the kit are a pair of black lashes and a small plastic vial of glue. This is my first ever pair of falsies and I quite liked them a lot, though they make me look, in my opinion, quite strange and foreign to myself. I suspect that’s because I’m not used to “flirty” lashes, but they are quite cute. The lashes are interspersed in long and short lengths. And it’s fairly easy to apply, though I wonder if this is something I need to trim (I don’t know how to tell). The glue is decent and is easy to remove. …

Plummy Days with Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Lip Color in Premier Plum

Here’s one of the four Revlon lip products that I bought (on sale!) on Sunday. I know, I know, I should be on a makeup ban, but it hardly feels like it. To tell you the truth, I have been quite good… in the sense that I only buy cosmetics at a 30% markdown, and only if I had been meaning to buy them anyway. In fact, I had enough sense to say no to Maybelline’s Falsies Mascara, which I had seen Ingrid Nilsen of Miss Glamorazzi rave about endlessly—because it was a mainstay at Maybelline. Revlon in Manila also marks up their products to about twice what they would retail for in the States. “But really, Carina? Four?” Well, I never said I was perfect. Anyway. On to Premier Plum, which is a beautiful plum with strong pink undertones and gold microshimmers. In the tube, it looks like it has a slight pearly finish, but when it sets and dries on your lips, you’re left with a slight sheen and a fairly pigmented stain. …

Drugstore Finds: Revlon Haul

I never thought I would be the kind of person who couldn’t resist sales. Alas! If it’s close to half-off, I’m in. Here’s a handful of Revlon lip things I got today—2 ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipsticks as per Krysty‘s suggestion, a ColorStay Ultimate Lipcolor, and one ColorBurst Lipgloss. I will review these over the course of the next days, but here are PhotoBooth pictures I took. For no reason at all, other than I love them so freakin’ much. I tried to go for shades I wouldn’t normally be bold enough to wear. It’s the perfect time, since the items were on a huge sale. Might as well, right? Lately, people have been telling me that they like me with a darker lip or that I should try wearing different shades, since I tend to gravitate towards one color family and just buy variations (case in point: NARS Pago Pago & MAC Viva Glam V & Chanel Perlé, which are all quite similar) from the families. Here’s to being more adventurous! I quite like it. …

Drugstore Finds: Maybelline Refined Wine Lipstick

This is going to be a super quick post, as I’m in the middle of a frillion different things, but when my sister brought home this lipstick, I couldn’t not post about it! Last Sunday, she’d been eyeing a rich purple-y lipstick she swatched on herself, but didn’t end up getting it. I guess she was haunted by it because when she got home from getting her tennis racket gutted at the mall, she also came home with this! Refined Wine is part of Maybelline’s limited edition collection, The Jewels by Color Sensational. The Jewels features eight jewel-toned lipsticks that I can’t help but feel are perfect for the holidays. They also have a moisturizing aspect to them, due to the honey nectar in their formulation. She tried it out, loved it, and told me to give it a shot. Neither of us had really ventured out of the reds, pinks, and peaches in terms of lipsticks, so I was glad to oblige. Refined Wine is such a perfect name for this shade, a rich, …
