Hey everyone! So. Mineral makeup. Do you like it or do you stay away from it? I fancy myself a mineral makeup lover, but we all know that while that may be true, I don’t really use the stuff enough. I’ve inexplicably accumulated a lot of colors, though. So! In an attempt to at least use a portion of my mineral eyeshadows, I’ve decided to do a mineral eyeshadow challenge in which I use just those for a week! I was thinking of doing a 52-Look Challenge, where I make a mineral makeup look at least once a week for a year, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself. Let’s see if I can do this first. 🙂 I thought about not showing my mineral eyeshadows because it’s a little embarrassing, but in the interest of transparency and honesty, here is the mother lode, complete with a nosy puppy: Not the most ideal storage “solution,” but I don’t exactly have a lot of space. I was telling fairytalesandcoffee about the unfortunate way my shopping seems to creep up on me. Not long after I banned myself from buying any more makeup, it started raining makeup because all of the other items I ordered prior to shunning (new) makeup purchases from my life started arriving. This haul from Shiro Cosmetics, which I luuuuv. Anyway, this is what I ended up getting. Read what I got during my first order here. They come in three sizes, full-sized pots, mini pots, and sample baggies. The full-sized ones come with stickers at the top. I bought 4 (I forgot to photograph 1), they’re lined up on the first column: It’s Gonna Be MAY! (LOL), Nestyr, and TARDIS (!). The mini pot I got is a pink shadow called Wildflowers, and it was from the Hunger Games Collection. First Shiro Cosmetics Purchase: The Tributes Collection & There and Back Again: A Hobbit Collection

I first heard about Shiro Cosmetics from Jen of Barely Organized Chaos, when she posted her loose shadow inventory. And you know me—I’m a sucker for geeky things and aptly-named things. I literally buy shit (not literal shit) because of what they’re called. Shiro Cosmetics released two collections that I fell for—hook, line, and sinker. The older collection is called “The Tributes,” and it’s based on Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games, which I love. The newer/newest one is called “There & Back Again,” and it’s based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,” which I LOVE MORE. So I pretty much was headed to Mount Doom at this point. Still, I did manage to hold back, and didn’t purchase the entire collections. In hindsight, I kinda wish I did, but it’s always good to not be a total hoarder. A little background: Shiro Cosmetics is owned by Caitlin, who loves makeup and geeky things. Favorite Things: Jonathan Adler for bareMinerals

But you might as well do what you can on the outside.” — Jonathan Adler I love pretty things, and I went back and forth on whether or not I should buy this pretty limited edition set from bareMinerals. They collaborated with Jonathan Adler, a sort of celebrity in the home designing world. He has his own pretty successful line—Happy Chic, anyone?—and I believe he has a collaboration out currently with Barnes & Noble. I found out about it through Tomiko’s post. I tried a sample of my mom’s bM foundation, and I decided that I liked it. I got this instead of the normal foundation because it came with an awesome brush, too. You get a Deluxe size of the Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 and the Handy Buki Brush. My shade is Medium Beige. On the packaging, it says that that’s N20. The pretty pattern features Adler’s signature chevron print. I didn’t know that the box was an LE acrylic box at the time …

Playlist: 4 Eye Looks Using bareMinerals’ A Vision in Velvet

Here’s a closeup of my “new discovery” in this post. I’d gotten bareMinerals’ A Vision in Velvet without prior knowledge as to how to apply and work with mineral shadows. As a result, I was met with a disastrous first impression. However, with my faith in this product renewed by the awesomeness of a layer of MAC Paint Pot in Rubenesque all over my lid, I set out to try out some more combinations. After all, the thing comes in twenty shades. My eyes glazed over as I tried to come up with the permutations for those colors. As was mentioned, the first look (above) is just the Rubenesque Paint Pot all over the lid, with Satin Plum on the crease and the inner and outer corners. Pretty. It’s pretty subtle, too, with the shimmers visible only up close. Here, I just swiped Velvet Violet over the center of a lid, for an overall purple-y look. It’s a little less warm and a little more intense (for some reason?). Next, I started with a clean …

Playlist: MAC Paint Pot (Rubenesque) & bareMinerals Satin Plum

I lifted my makeup ban and got a MAC paint pot yesterday, which I had been meaning to for a while. Paint Pots are essentially cream eyeshadows that you can wear alone or as a base for your eyeshadows. I don’t know if they have other functions, but I think that alone is pretty cool in itself. I got it in Rubenesque, which is a beautiful peach bronze that has hints of rose at some turns. Anyway, I’ll review this some other time, but all you really need to know is that I really freaking love it so much. In the middle of uploading work stuff, I decided to play with my new paint pot and one of the shades that came with bareMinerals’ A Vision in Velvet, which let’s face it, really swatched pretty horribly. Not one to give up on underperforming things—and also things that cost me $80—I was eager to try and make a few looks with some of the shades. bareMinerals: A Vision in Velvet

Before you say anything, I know this is a lot of product. Yep, I know that it’s like A LOT. bareMinerals A Vision in Velvet is a set of twenty mineral eyeshadows. I know it looks like a lot, but that’s because it is. A Vision in Velvet, which is part of bareMinerals’ holiday collection, is a limited edition eyecolor collection with 10 velvet colors and 10 satin colors. I first saw it on Temptalia and I hounded it until I found it at the Nordstrom website, before it was available on bareescentuals.com. They come in twenty individual pots with a sifter, a sticker (to keep them neat) and a twist-on golden cap. Very festive, I think, especially when they are on view in an entire row. This is what the pots look like without the sifter. Ideally, it’s supposed to keep the product within some reasonable area of neatness, but I find that sticking it back on wastes a ton of product, since they adhere to the sticky side.
