Lip Things from Laala

I got a bunch of lip products from that swap with Laala, and I thought I’d give a short p/review of sorts for each in this post. Here are the lip products, swatched on my arm: Swatched, L-R: NARS Satin Lipstick (Niagara), Dior Addict Lip Glow, Tarte Pure Performance Lipstick (Bold), MUA Power Pout (Runway), Vaseline Advanced Lip Therapy (Aloe) First up is the NARS SATIN LIPSTICK IN NIAGARA, which is actually a sort of hand-me-down from her. She said she couldn’t get it to work on herself, but when I saw swatches online, I knew it was the sort of color that’s right up my alley. 🙂 NARS describes Niagara as a “pink-based coral,” and it’s my first satin lipstick from NARS. It’s a beautiful light coral that’s perfect for spring. Here, I’ve paired it with a neutral eye with a mint accent.

5 Things Friday: Makeup to Try This Spring

Quite a late 5 Things Friday this week, but I really wanted to put one up so I cobbled this post together. When it comes to spring makeup, I know most people revert to pastels. However, most pastels can look horrible on some people (i.e. me), so I’ve resorted to looking for other ways to incorporate springy-ness to my looks. DEWY SKIN In this humidity, dewy skin seems to be the only option for base makeup, whether or not you wear any. Sometimes, it tiptoes over to the side of greasy, but if you’re lucky (or within the vicinity of decent airconditioning), you can keep it dewy and soft. source ORANGE LIPS This is actually not something I have tried wearing out yet, but with the bombardment of bright orange lips all over the Internet, it’s becoming more appealing. source WHITE EYELINER I think this is a soft and bold way to brighten up and define your eyes. It’s pretty simple to do, too, and matches pretty much anything else you want to do with …

Quickie: One Way I Wear a Bold Lip

Whenever I get the urge to wear a bold lip color, I remember to try and keep my face minimal but clean. What do I mean by that? Well, I mostly use colors and techniques that aren’t bold so that they don’t contend or clash with my already dramatic lip. In this photo, I’m wearing a beautiful, super-opaque vampy red lipstick that has strong purple tones by Addiction called Lady in the Lake. I left my brows natural and defined, kept my eye makeup neutral and defined, and focused on making my base as flawless and spotless as I could. The cheeks are also quite understated, again so as not to detract from the red lip. Et voilà! A easy look done with minimal effort, but one that packs a punch and makes a statement. Current Nail Routine

I’m not a nail polish fiend, but lately I’ve been enjoying painting them. Here’s my usual routine: — Base Coat: Sally Hansen Hard as Nails — Chosen Nail Lacquer — Top Coat: China Glaze No-Chip Top Coat I’m a big fan of the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails, but I’m not too sure how I feel about the China Glaze top coat. I mentioned before that nails aren’t really my thing, and I’m terrible at nail art or even just regular application. What I’ve been doing lately is having an accent nail, usually the ring fingers. This pretty hot pink is by Butter London, and it’s called Primrose Hill Picnic. It’s a fabulous cream and goes on opaque in one coat. The rest of the nails are painted in Barry M’s Countess, which Laala gave to me via her swap. Butter London and Barry M are cruelty-free. Unboxing: Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP March 2014

Hey everyone, just a quick post for today. 🙂 Before I left for Japan, I had gotten the March box from my Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP Subscription. For those not in the know, it’s basically a monthly subscription box from Le Métier de Beauté. The box’s set-up is an upfront payment for all 12 months. Each box costs roughly around $30, and this is the seventh box so far. If you’re curious about the subscription, here are my posts on it. Sign-ups open back up after this round is done. Boxes often come in this manner, with crinkly shredded black paper as the padding, a handwritten note, and a beautiful box tied with a black LMdB ribbon. We received two items this month, the Le Métier de Beauté Ultra Hydration Eye Mask Duo and the Le Métier de Beauté Peau Vierge Correcteur Concealer, which is a product I’ve been longing to try but can’t seem to bring myself to because of the price tag. The Ultra Hydration Eye Mask Duo retails for …

5 Things Friday: Heroic “Extras”

Todays 5 Things Friday features some extras in my routine that actually make a big difference. I call them extras because they’re not necessary steps to my routine, though they make a ton of difference. 1. MAC Fix+ This is essentially a setting spray to lock in your makeup, but you can also spray this on before makeup application or use it to apply your eyeshadows wet. I know there are many dupes around, but this is the one I have. 2. Le Métier de Beauté Peau Vierge Lash Growth This is a pricier version of the many lash growth serums that have become widely available, but it’s the one that’s suited to my sensitive eyes and it actually works! I can do without it, but no one in their right mind would say ‘no’ to slightly longer lashes. 3. Sara Happ Lip Scrub Again, something easily duplicated with the right DIY recipe. I don’t use scrubs that often, but when I do, my lips—and lipstick application—always thank me. 4. Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream …
