Drugstore Finds: Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Iconic*

Here’s a quick review on the Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Iconic* which I got in a BDJ Box a few months ago. It’s a really pretty corally pink with a smattering of gold shimmers. It reminds me a lot of NARS Orgasm. The color glides on smoothly, and I didn’t notice any clinging to dry patches or sinking into fine lines. As is typical of the ColorStay formulas, this dries down to a somewhat tacky finish, which is what I would say I didn’t like about this formula. However, this makes it long-wearing. It’s also a little bit tricky because it doesn’t wear off evenly. I wouldn’t purchase another lipstick from this line, based on the formula and also because Revlon is not cruelty-free. Still, it’s definitely the kind of pink that I like, so I’ll be holding on to it. In other news, my face is as big as the moon. :0 What is going on! (JK, I know exactly. I gained some weight and it’s showing in my face, huuuu.) * …

Quickie: MAC Lipstick in Ravishing

Described as a “clean light peachy coral,” Ravishing is a color that I wanted to love but didn’t. I mean, I like it, but it pulls a little bit more orange on me than on some other people. Probably because of my skin tone, but who really knows? Ravishing is a creamsheen lipstick, which means that it is very creamy and goes on quite glossy-shiny. It should be said that creamsheens are NOT my favorite lipsticks. I can’t stand how they apply. It feels quite heavy (for me) and I find that it clings to dry patches. When the lipstick “sets” and dries down after a few hours, it’s just an unpleasant overall feeling of tackiness and accumulated soaked dry flakes. LOL it’s probably not as bad as I’m making it out to be, but like I said: not my favorite finish. This swatch is closer to what I hoped Ravishing would be on my lips. I think I was looking for a slightly less pink Betty Bright, which is a color I prefer but …

Quickie: MAC Satin Lipstick in Twig

Have you noticed that I am slowly trying to feature each MAC lipstick I have? 🙂 MAC’s Twig is a “soft muted brownish pink,” and is a satin finish. The only other MAC Satin Lipstick I own is Betty Bright from the Archie’s Girls Collection. I find this to be less creamy than that one, and it is very similar to another “everyday lipstick” I got, Mehr, which is a matte. Swatched, you can definitely see how Twig gets its description. I love this color. Really, based on the bullet and the swatch, Twig should be a favorite, but it pulls really dark and pink on me. All of the brown is lost somewhere out there. I don’t dislike the color. It’s a very nice color. 🙂 I think that the finish has a lot to do with it, for some reason. I have a feeling that’s why I use Mehr a whole lot more; it’s “true to bullet,” so to speak and it’s very what you see is what you get. Twig reacts weirdly …

Drugstore Finds: Maybelline Color Whispers

I was going to put these Maybelline Color Whispers as an “overhyped product,” but I realized that I really liked them. I just felt guilty because these were the first non-CF items I got after I made my cruelty-free pledge. Though I didn’t commit to completely eliminated non-CF products, I still said I would try to minimize my consumption of animal tested products. So these felt like a failure. But they are good products, so I can’t, in good conscience, put them in the “overhyped products” post, out of guilt. Anyway, I got three colors: Mocha Muse, Lust for Blush, Petal Pusher. The one I really wanted but couldn’t get a hold of was Coral Ambition, I think. These were really hard to get photos of, because they were so glossy-shiny. L-R: Mocha Muse, Lust for Blush, Petal Pusher. They are also incredibly sheer and somewhat milky-looking. It’s a similar effect to some of the Korres Lip Butters, Jasmine in particular. I’m not sure if these are marketed as an alternative to those, but they …

Confessions of a Lip-Licker

I am a lip-licker. I don’t mean to be one, it’s just a habit of mine. I think it mostly has to do with my need to get rid of any and all dry flakes on my lips when I encounter them. Lipstick formula and longevity is marginally important to me, because I tend to lick off lipstick anyway. When I started this beauty blog, I tried to stop this habit to properly test the lipstick longevity, and also because I heard that ingesting lipstick is bad because of lead content and other icky ingredients. The other problem with lipstick-licking is that my lipstick starts out immaculate and then wears off into a real stupid mess. Sometimes, there will be a lip liner ring where a slick of lipstick used to be. Other times, it’s a jungle of dry skin with lipstick koalas clung onto them. When this happens—smushy ex-dry flakes with lipstick clingers in a sticky mess on my lips—I resort to licking my lips anyway. This does little to remedy the problem. It’s …

Quickie: MAC Lustre Lipstick in Plumful

Here’s a quick review of Plumful, a Lustre lipstick from MAC. This is one of my favorite MAC lipsticks, and predictably so! I’m very much into plum and grape shades, especially if they are sheer. One of my first lipstick loves was NARS’ Sheer Lipstick in Vendanges, which I featured on Day 2 of Lipstick Week, in which I picked out my Most-Loved Lipsticks. Another similar color is Revlon’s Lip Butter in Sugar Plum. There is a very juicy feel to these lipsticks that I think is similar to MAC’s Plumful. On the right is one pass of Plumful, and on the left are several passes. Since it’s a “lustre” lipstick, the color comes off very sheer even though it looks fairly dark in the tube. I’m wearing it here! While it is technically buildable, its opacity isn’t really very solid and the finish is somewhat shiny. Since it is sheer and a little glossy, it is a bit more forgiving on the lips than other finishes like creamsheen (the worst, in my opinion) or …
